NEW GENERATION ACADEMIC PROGRAM (NGAP) LECTURER POSITION

UNIZULU is a comprehensive University offering degree, diploma and certificate courses across its Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences; Education; Science and Agriculture; and Commerce, Administration and Law at the Kwa Dlangezwa and Richards Bay campuses. The position is based at the University of Zululand and is a permanent position. The Lecturer’s will be reporting to the Head of the Department (HoD) / Mentor.
The incumbent will be developed to be enabled to:
plan and manage student learning process by teaching preparation / planning, teaching, assessing students work, monitoring and evaluation learning process, reporting on teaching and learning achievement and challenges in the subject field of teaching expertise.
supervise and undertake research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across faculties and / or relevant fields of study.
S/he must show initiative and enthusiasm in working as a team player in the department.
S/he will be required to provide guidance to learners in mastering key skills in the fields.
The university is seeking candidates who want to become career academics. Mentorship and training programs will be provided. The ideal candidate would be a post graduate student who has just completed their Master’s degree and want to work towards their PhD.
A Total Remuneration fixed salary package of R 516 571.00 would be offered.
KEY ACTIVITIES
TEACHING
Design and develop course material.
Teach the undergraduate students.
Set mark/evaluate assignments, tutorials and examinations.

RESEARCH
Engage in research in the fields of Science Education
Write research proposals.
Source funding for research initiatives.
Publishing of research work in referred journals.
Presenting research papers at national and international conferences.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Participate in community outreach projects.
Promote community involvement within the Department by working as a team player.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Assist with administrative duties such as time tabling, invigilating, registration and students’ records.
Participate in University Committees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
An MSc or MEng in Mechanical Engineering with the following undergraduate qualification: BSc in Mechanical Engineering and/ or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
(PLEASE NOTE: BTECH, MTECH WOULD NOT QUALIFY SO PLEASE DO NOT APPLY).
Professional teaching qualification.
A minimum pass mark of 70% Masters (academic record must be provided with application).
Driver’s license.
The incumbent must demonstrate that they would want to become a career academic.

The University of Zululand (UNIZULU), affectionately known as Ongoye, is a Comprehensive University located on the North Coast of the Kwazulu-Natal Province.
It boasts two campuses located in KwaDlangezwa and Richards Bay. It has four faculties, namely Humanities, Education, Science Agriculture and Engineering, and Commerce, Administration and Law.
Applications are invited from suitable qualified interested parties to fill the position indicated above. The candidates will be expected to teach at undergraduate and post graduate levels of study in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering:
Department of Computer Science. The candidate will be working between the two Campuses and will be expected to supervise post graduate research, engage in community engagement, and will also assist in administrative duties of the Department. The successful candidate will be required to teach computer science modules relevant to engineering students and mainstream computer science students, on any of the two Campuses of the University.
The incumbent will report to the Head of Department: Computer Sciences.
Minimum requirements:
Master’s degree in computer sciences or related field.
Minimum 2 years’ experience of teaching at a Tertiary Institution with demonstrated potential in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, online, seminar, tutorial and/or practical’s, coupled with knowledge of online assessment practices.
Ability to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental level.
A qualification, or proof of studying towards a qualification in the assessment of learning at NQF Level 7/8, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
Sound interpersonal skills.
MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.
Good English speaking, reading and writing capability.
Added advantage:
Holding or Studying towards a Doctoral qualification in the field of Computer Sciences or related field.
Evidence of a publication record
Proven experience of teaching engineering students at institution of higher Education where engineering graduate attributes as needed from engineering students by ECSA is being assessed.
Working experience:
Teaching undergraduate and post graduate students.
Experience in post graduate supervision or co-supervision
Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience of teaching at the Institution of Higher Education with demonstrated potential in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, seminar, tutorial and/or practical’s, coupled with knowledge of assessment practices through online using teaching and learning technological tools and face to face mode of delivery.
Teaching Computer Science modules to engineering and mainstream undergraduate and post graduate students.
