PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER (3.5 YEAR CONTRACT) 
THE DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY AND ENTOMOLOGY
The Department of Zoology and Entomology invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 
 
The Department 
The Department of Zoology and Entomology was established in 1905 and is a leading African academic institution with strengths in Marine Biology, African Vertebrate Biology and Entomology. The department comprises 9 academics and numerous research officers and associates, and it hosts a SARChI Chair in Applied Agricultural Entomology and the Centre for Biological Control. The department has a long and prestigious history in graduating postgraduate students and producing high quality research publications, and the academic staff enjoy considerable international recognition for their research.
 
The Requirements

Senior Lecturer:
  • At least a PhD in Entomology or related field with a strong focus on Entomology
  • Teaching experience in Entomology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.
  • Experience in teaching topics related to general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, apiculture, forensic entomology, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, conservation, pest management and entomological bio-control.  Experience in research in general or applied entomological topics.
  • Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required to completion.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publication and evidence of attracting funding
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
 
Associate Professor:
  • At least a PhD in Entomology or related field with a strong focus on Entomology
  • Considerable teaching experience in Entomology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in teaching topics related to general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, apiculture, forensic entomology, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, conservation, pest management and entomological bio-control.  Experience in research in general or applied entomological topics.
  • Research supervision of Masters and preferably PhD degrees to completion.
  • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publication and evidence of attracting funding
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
 
Professor:
  • At least a PhD in Entomology or related field with a strong focus on Entomology
  • Extensive teaching experience in Entomology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Job Description
Manager: Payroll (Grade 15)
Finance Division
The Finance Division invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives
To ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Payroll Section within the Finance Division. The Payroll Manager plays a pivotal role in the accurate and timely processing of payroll and related transactions for the University, whilst ensuring good governance and sound controls to comply with legislation and policies and procedures. In addition, the Payroll Manager is responsible for continuous improvements of payroll-related business process and systems to become more efficient and effective, strengthen controls, and contribute to the objectives of the University.
 
The Requirements
A relevant B. Degree (NQF Level 7) plus approximately 8 years’ relevant experience where relevant experience includes: -
  • Working in a Finance/Accounting environment with proven experience in payroll processing of a large employee base and multiple payrolls (monthly and weekly).
  • Proficiency in Sage 300, including Job Costing functionality
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, with advanced competence in Excel
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to PAYE, UIF, LRA, BCEA and relevant financial legislation
  • Experience in submissions to SARS, including SARS online systems, and managing SARS verifications and audits
  • At least 3-years’ supervision/management experience of a Payroll section
  • Experience in a Higher Education Institution will serve as an advantage

Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.  The incumbent in this academic role will play a particular role in planning, managing and implementing the Clinical Legal Education programme and may be required to teach in related academic courses in addition to practising in the Law Clinic.
 
The Requirements
  • LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa, and a minimum of three (3) years of post-admission experience as a legal practitioner.
  • Some progress toward the completion of a LLM qualification
  • Some teaching or tutoring experience is required.
