Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The university seeks to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual to manage a set of facilities that is comprised mainly of modern, state of the art buildings that are dedicated to the scientific disciplines. It wishes to ensure that the precinct is managed to global standards in terms of technology and relevant legislation, and to ensure ongoing support for the building occupant’s requirements.
 
 The post assumes responsibility for:
  • Provision of building infrastructure and occupant support services (coordination, control, and management).
  • Electrical maintenance services
  • HVAC maintenance services
  • Laboratory services, incl. gas, fume cupboards, and other piped services
  • Management of small to medium scale projects
  • Management of Service Level Agreement service providers
  • Budget management
  • Ensure effective, reliable and cost- efficient responses for precinct requirements
  • Coordinate team activities ( in house staff, contractors and consultants)
  • Ensure effective Financial Management and reporting
  • Manage building access
  • Maintenance planning
 
Minimum Requirements
  • B Tech degree or equivalent (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Quantity Surveying) NQF 7 
  • 5-8 years’ recent experience in the maintenance of building infrastructure
  • Valid drivers’ license (2 years driving experience).
  • Proven supervisory experience – at least 3 years
 
Knowledge, skills and capabilities
  • Good computer literacy, incl. proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong ability to conduct failure analysis and establish root cause
  • Proven track record on small to medium scale projects
  • Superior planning and organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
  • Good knowledge of building regulations and standards ISO Standards/SABS/ASIB
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines
 
Advantageous :
  • Knowledge of the functioning of Higher Education institutions
  • Professional registration with ECSA.

​DENTAL ASSISTANT

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

Responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting staff and students within the department of Community Dentistry and the Faculty,
  • Disinfect clinical areas before and after treatment,
  • Setting out clinical tray & materials for each clinic,
  • Ensure that all used dental instruments are returned to sterilization after each clinical session,
  • Assist with administration of patient records, ensuring confidentiality,  accurate filing,
  • Booking/follow-up and confirmation of bookings for clinics, 
  • Ensure smooth running of the clinic, including infection control,
  • When required, monitor and prepare the usage of the mobile clinic and disinfect before and after treatment, 
  • When required, prepare, sterilize instruments and manage equipment, materials, and medications for day as well as outreach clinics,
  • Capture and submit patient statistics using MS Excel,
  • Coordinating the procurement and stock for dental-related items,
  • Supporting the department and the faculty in outreach programmes and activities. 

Minimum Requirements
Appointment to this position requires the following:
 
Minimum educational qualification: 
  • Higher certificate in Dental Assisting. 
 
Registration with the professional council:
  • Current registration as Dental Assistant with the HPCSA. 

Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience after obtaining an appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the HPCSA as Dental Assistant.
Drivers Licence:
  • Valid code 8 driver’s license  (with at least 2 years accident-free driving experience),
  • Must have been in possession of a valid driver's license for at least two years.
