Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Secretariat provides procedural and administrative support to the University Council, Senate, Institutional Forum and its committees. The Secretariat seeks to appoint a Committee Officer whose responsibilities will include the provision of effective and efficient support to the University's governance structures and committees.
This position is ideally suited to a vibrant, self-motivated and efficient person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Performance Areas:
The Committee Officer will largely be responsible for providing secretarial support to committees, including but not limited to arranging committee meetings; compiling agendas and meeting packs; writing of committee minutes and reports; compiling and maintaining of annual workplans of committees, annual updates to committee membership registers, ensuring that members are appointed in accordance with committee terms of reference, maintaining decision and action/matters arising registers for committees, providing procedural advice to committees, faculties and relevant University stakeholders; ensuring expedient communication of governance decisions; archiving of documents; ensuring a schedule of meetings is prepared annually; ensuring compliance with statutes and terms of reference (standing orders); and liaison with internal and external committee members.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, preferably in administration
- At least 2 years proven procedural and administrative experience
- Good communication and writing skills in English
- At least 3 years proven experience in business writing, including report and minute writing
- Computer skills (MS Office Suite)
- Demonstrated planning and organising skills
Added Advantages:
- Experience working in a Higher Education environment
- Knowledge of the governance processes in Higher Education would be advantageous
- ICT skills
- Knowledge of an electronic committee management system would be advantageous

The Associate Professor (Senior Manager & Regional Representative) provides leadership and oversight of the South Africa Global Office. This role blends high-level institutional representation with strategic and operational management, ensuring that the office delivers on its mission to advance academic, research, and community partnerships between UVA, UWC, and regional stakeholders.
Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Humanities Research (UWC) and the Director of Global Initiatives (UVA), the successful applicant will be responsible for:
Strategic Leadership & Representation
- Serve as UVA’s senior in-country representative in South Africa and the region.
- Strengthen partnerships with universities, government, NGOs, and industry.
- Develop and implement a regional communication and outreach strategy.
- Lead alumni engagement, donor cultivation, and development activities.
- Oversee planning for high-profile visits, events, and conferences.
- Expand UVA student mobility opportunities (study abroad, internships, research exchanges) and develop mutual exchanges with UWC and tertiary institutions throughout South Africa.
- Facilitate collaborative research and academic programs between UVA, UWC, and regional partners.
- Assist in complying with regulatory frameworks, and help to facilitate approvals for human subject’s research.
- Develop Global Classroom and virtual exchange initiatives.
- Create professional pathways and career placement opportunities for UVA students and alumni.

- Serve as point of contact for audits, contracts, and legal matters.
Minimum Requirements
- MBChB (NQF 8) with relevant experience or a Doctoral degree (NQF 10) in public health, health sciences, higher education administration, public policy, cultural studies, or related field.
- 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, research team leadership, international program administration, higher education leadership, or global project management.
- Demonstrated success in managing multi-institutional partnerships and complex initiatives.
- Proven experience engaging stakeholders across academia, government, and civil society.
- Strong project management, monitoring, and evaluation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa.
- Strong financial, administrative, and compliance experience.
- Ability to travel to the US for training and ongoing collaboration.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate levels in biochemistry
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Lead independent high-impact research initiatives aligned with the institute’s strategic focus areas, enhancing international visibility and academic reputation
- Undertake undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral supervision in microbial biotechnology contributing to research productivity and capacity building
