The University of the Western Cape (UWC) seeks to appoint an experienced Information & Technology Risk Manager in its Information and Communication Services (ICS) department.
The University has set itself exciting and challenging goals in its Institutional Operating Plan (IOP), which rely heavily on ICT to deliver integrated solutions that enable and support its Academic and Research programs, and its Administrative and Professional Services departments.
This permanent position, based at the Bellville main campus, will report to the Deputy Director ICS: Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) and will play a pivotal role in maturing the University's IT Risk Management functional domain and capabilities in the areas of: IT Risk Identification; IT Risk Assessment; IT Risk Response & Mitigation; IT Risk and Control Monitoring & Reporting.
This is a demanding but very stimulating role, which requires an experienced individual with the appropriate breadth and depth of business and technical skills and competencies.

Key Performance Areas:
1. IT Risk Identification
- Identify and classify potential threats and vulnerabilities across the university's people, information, processes, and technology.
- Develop comprehensive IT risk scenarios and stakeholder accountabilities to gauge their impact on achieving business goals and objectives.
- Maintain the IT risk register to incorporate identified risk scenarios into the institutional risk profile and combined assurance practices.
- Assess, maintain and evaluate existing control effectiveness for IT risk mitigation.
- Ensure clear accountability by assigning risk ownership at appropriate levels.
- Communicate risk assessment outcomes to senior management for informed decision-making.
- Support risk owners in developing risk action plans where necessary.
- Advise on the design, implementation, or adjustment of mitigating controls to manage risks effectively.
- Maintain the IT Risk and Control Matrix.
- Assist control owners in developing control procedures for efficient execution.
- Validate the execution of risk responses as per action plans.
- Contribute to developing a risk awareness program to foster a risk-aware culture and facilitate risk training.
- Assist with the ongoing refinement and improvement of IT risk-related dashboard reports.
- Assist with the preparation and dissemination of IT Risk management reports, ensuring reporting deadlines are met.
- Establish key risk and performance indicators (KRIs and KPIs) and thresholds to measure risk control performance and monitor changes or trends in the IT risk profile.
- Report on the performance, changes, or trends in the overall IT risk profile and control environment to management and stakeholders for decision-making.
- Co-ordinate activities required to fulfil the requirements of efficient internal and external IT audits.
- Provide consultation and advice on audit scope, remediation, and strategic items related to the IT audits and control environment.
- Represent IT at the UWC Personal Information Reference Group which co- ordinates the institution’s response to managing the POPIA compliance risk.
Minimum Requirements
- Possess a Bachelors degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or an equivalent NQF-7 qualification, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of experience in IT Risk Management or
- Alternatively, hold an internationally recognised risk management certification within the industry accompanied by a minimum of 8 years of relevant and equivalent experience in IT Risk Management
- Proficiency in legal, regulatory, standards, governance and other compliance requirements pertaining to IT Risk Management and a higher education environment (e.g. COBIT, ISO2700x, ISO31000, ISO27701, COSO, NIST, CIS, POPIA etc.)
Preferred requirements include:
- The international CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) certification;
- An accredited certification in Problem Management (e.g. Kepner Tregoe or related ITIL intermediate course);
- Experience in IT Service Management, including incident and problem management;
- COBIT-5 certification in IT Governance;
- Experience in developing and maintaining IT Risk management policies, processes and procedures aligned to recognised industry leading practice;
- Good experiential knowledge and understanding of an enterprise business systems architecture (including data centre; server environment; storage network; databases; operating systems; applications; WAN & LAN networks);
- Good understanding of threats and vulnerabilities relating to: data management; the software development lifecycle (SDLC); project & program management; IT service continuity and disaster recovery; IT operations;
- Proficiency in business process review tools and techniques;
- Proficiency in capability assessment models and improvement techniques and strategies;
- Good understanding of information security controls, concepts and principles;
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Experience working in the Higher Education sector

The Division for Student Development and Support (SDS) plays a leading role in creating a holistically focused, enabling environment and provides excellent opportunities for students to develop to their full potential as active scholars and responsive citizens in South Africa.
Applications for the post of Psychologist, are invited from professionally trained and HPCSA board-registered dynamic individuals with student housing experience within a tertiary institution. The individual must demonstrate a rich, counseling background with young people (both on an individual basis and in groups) and must embody the pursuit of constant self-improvement and development as well as be invested in the growth, support and development of others. Applicants must have sound theoretical knowledge in the area and be comfortable with working in dynamic environments an across multiple modalities. They must be client-service orientated and passionate about supporting the organization’s strategic deliverables with regards to students and their co-curricular development, and mental health and wellness well-being.
The Successful Candidate will be Responsible for:
- Provision of Individual and Support Group Facilitation and Counseling
- Response to mental health and wellness emergencies where admissions are required to ensure the safety and well-being of students (includes availability after hours)
- Design and Implement Initiatives that strengthen individual and community resilience, as part of a mental health and wellness team
- Submission of relevant reports in respect of KPA's
- Assessment and collaborating on a treatment/case management plan with clients in the interests of supporting them in order for them to complete their academic programme
- With the client’s permission (where the client is able to do so), collaborate with faculty, staff, and other professionals to provide the best care possible
- Ensure all services are completed according to relevant ethical and professional standards of care
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant policies of the Institution and ethical obligations within the scope and practice of the HPCSA’s registration prescripts
- Engagement with relevant legislation and partnering with all relevant key stakeholders in the best interests of securing the best possible outcome for the student in crisis
- Psychoeducation activities and the development of relevant resource materials
- Training of student leaders and frontline staff in containment and referral techniques
- Through research and analysis, staying abreast of the latest developments and ensuring that current strategic deliverables in the area is contextually relevant and submission of reports for the fore-mentioned (includes Comprehensive analysis of trends, treatment strategies, value-add activities, collaborations, impacting factors and recommendations for future considerations).
Minimum Requirements
- Professional Qualifications: MA (Counselling/Clinical Psychology)
- 2 years' experience working as an HPCSA registered Psychologist
- Sound theoretical understanding of principles, ethics and practices in the Psychology Profession
- Demonstrated experience working with young adults
- Demonstrated experience of Community involvement in respect of programme design and implementation
- Demonstrated ability to network across various support organisations
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be prepared to be available for after hours emergencies interventions and support
- Current HPCSA Registration as a counselling or clinical psychologist

An exciting opportunity exists in the UWC’s Gender Equity Unit, for a suitably qualified candidate to: provide administrative support the GEU’s student and staff projects to ensure that the University’s environment is responsive in line with Transformation and policy to women, LGBTIQA+, broader gender rights, social justice and the rights of people with varied sex characteristics including those of sex workers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following key areas:
- To maintain and provide a support service for the Gender Equity Unit’s programmes including forward planning of workload, diary management, co-ordinating and collating of all relevant paperwork.
- Service meetings, including preparation of meeting papers, obtaining and preparing briefing materials and presentations, and taking minutes when requested/where necessary of GEU programmes.
- Respond and advise efficiently to all electronic or verbal enquiries related to Gender Equity Unit programmes.
- Arrangement of logistics for meetings, workshops and related programme.
- Assist with communication between the programme’s coordinator, team at GEU and stakeholders assist with social media platforms to ensure that all programme work is profiled on social media.
- Assist with marketing and period content placement on social media platforms and UWC Communications.
- Execute any ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
- A relevant National Higher Certificate or Equivalent qualification at NQF Level 5
- 2 years’ relevant experience.
