The Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent records for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.
Responsibilities will include:
• Rendering an Anaesthetic and Sedation service on the combined platform (this would include pre-operative examination of patients, intra-operative management of patients, post-operative patient care and intensive patient care, as well as normal working hours and overtime duties as per departmental roster),
• Teaching, learning and training on the combined platform, i.e. appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
• Active participation in research and produce publications,
• Administrative duties related to the post,
• Management of anaesthesiology and sedation at the University of the Western Cape,
• Active collaboration with academic anaesthesiology departments in the Western Cape,
• Community engagement.
The following would enhance an application (at each of the above levels):
• Leadership and management experience,
• Experience in maxillo-facial and dental related anaesthesiology and sedation,
• Experience in managing difficult airways,
• Experience in teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate students,
• Research experience,
• Ability to work in a team,

• Computer literacy.
Minimum Requirements
Appointment to this position requires the following:
• A MBChB or equivalent,
• A MMed (Anaesthesiology) or FCA or equivalent qualification,
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology,
• Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology is a prerequisite.
The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Senior Lecturer:
• A PhD in the field of Anaesthesiology/sedation is recommended,
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Department’s academic objectives,
• An acceptable research and publications record.
Associate Professor:
• A PhD in the field of Anaesthesiology/sedation is recommended,
• A substantial research and publications record,
• Demonstrated academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Faculty’s academic objectives,
• An acceptable research and publications record,
• Evidence of successful post graduate supervision of Masters Students.

SSME seeks to appoint an academic who will teach Mathematics Education, participate in and substantially contribute to research and development work; and be involved in related Mathematics projects.
Minimum Requirements
- An Honours Degree in Mathematics Education with a deeper / wider understanding of of issues related to the learning and teaching of mathematics in the Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) Phase/s.
- Evidence of advanced progress in completing a Masters degree in Mathematic Education is required.
- An undergraduate qualification with at least pure Mathematics (NQF level 6)
- Experience in teaching Mathematics at tertiary level or in the Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) & FET Phase (Grades 10-12)
- Experience in the development of teaching and learning materials
- Experience in online and blended teaching approaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Evidence of working with e-learning platforms and technology to teach, communicate with students and assess their learning

We are currently seeking a self-motivated, committed, competent suitably qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Administrator of the Faculty of Education Resource Centre to service and manage the diverse information needs of the academic and student community by coordinating a variety of professional services in support of the teaching, learning, research and scholarship of engagement for societal impact in the Faculty. The job aims to embed resource centre services into the faculty programmes. The incumbent will report to the Deputy Dean: Research & Postgraduate Studies.
Key Performance Areas:
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Oversee the resource centre resources, activities and usage;
- Coordinate appointment and allocation of new tutors;
- Liaison between faculty and workstudy program;
- Financial administration, including budget control and procurement;
- Provide academic support to the students in line with departmental goals;
- Assist in developing and creating innovative academic support resources;
- Facilitate relevant academic support training or workshops for tutors and CALT Centre;
- Assist in monitoring tutors' performance;
- Assist with compiling written operational and evaluation reports on academic support, resource centre and CALT activities;
- Control, monitor and reporting of specific budgets: Postgraduate Resource Centre, Tutor & CALT;
- Document collection, filing and uploading of documents;
- Record keeping;
- Project Administration.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric/ Grade 12 and at least a relevant post-matric qualification at NQF6;
- At least 5 years’ experience working in the Resource Centre environment in Higher Education;
- Experience in financial administration and project administration;
- Computer Literacy including proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
Competencies Required:
- Good interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills;
- Strong administrative, planning and organisational skills;
- Ability to facilitate group training;
- Report writing;
- Strong leadership and computer literacy skills;
