Duties and responsibilities:
In consultation with the Academic Head of Department (AHD); undertake the following:
• Manage the curriculum processes of the department.
• Develop new learning programmes in consultation with stakeholders.
• Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the programme.
• Provide general leadership in the programme and ensure academic coherence across all various modules of the programme.
• Ensure that the activities of the Programme are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks of the University.
• Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the Programme.
• Manage the academic administration of the Programme.
• Ensure scholarship of high quality.
• Manage matters relating to teaching, learning, and students in the Programme.
• Conduct own research.
• Provide academic advice in terms of academic inquiries, amendments of yearbooks, schedules, timetables, etc. related to the Programme.
• Serve on the marketing committee of the faculty as necessary.
• Assist with marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing material.
Inherent requirements:
• Doctoral degree on NQF level 10 in Soil, Crop and Climate Sciences or closely related field.
• A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Soil, Crop and Climate Sciences at the University of the Free State.

• Develop and implement strategies for biological control of planet parasitic nematodes, with an emphasis on agricultural and horticultural systems.

Inherent requirements:
Senior Lecturer
• PhD on NQF Level 10 in Zoology/Biology/Environmental Science (Invertebrate Zoology focusing on Nematology).
• Proven laboratory experience (qPCR, NGS, phylogenetic analysis), experimental design and management of a potential diagnostic lab.
• Proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals (at least 5-10), including representative publications as lead author.
• Proven experience in presenting papers/posters at national and international scholarly conferences.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society, committee, or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
• Proven undergraduate teaching experience at a higher education institution.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s students.
