RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Compiling and managing all departmental Budgets;
  • Approving financial transactions as per the Financial Policies and Procedures;
  • Managing and controlling budget spending as cost centre owner of all DLS cost centres.
  • Reviewing cost centres for overspending and irregularities;
  • Allocating approved budgets allocations and detailed operational budgets;
  • Monitoring cost centres and request transfers to cost centres with inadequate funds;
  • Managing departmental income to ensure it is reflected in the correct cost centre;
  • Monitoring compliance in the department with all finance regulations and policies;
  • Compiling financial management reports for the DLS Director and EXCO;
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • B Com degree with Accounting III;
  • Five years’ experience, including three years as a financial accountant.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Budgeting;
    • Management reporting;
    • Accounting business cycles;
  • Relevant South African tax and other related legislations;
  • Aptitude for working with numbers and accounting calculations;
  • Supervision skills;
  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks;
  • Strong skills in MS Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Honours degree in Financial Management or Accounting;
  • Three years of Working experience within a Tertiary Education environment;
  • Three years’ experience in the use of PeopleSoft and OCLC WorldShare system.

OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Unit for Academic Literacy (UAL) is a key research, teaching and learning entity similar to other academic departments in the Faculty of Humanities. It is responsible for academic literacy facilitation, writing centre support, and corporate translation and editing through the Language Unit. The Unit is also responsible for the provision of English as a foreign language (EFL) and English as a second language (ESL) through short courses offered by the University of Pretoria Centre for Language Learning (UPCLL). Our philosophy in the UAL is to transform students into critical and analytical thinkers, readers and writers. Therefore, we approach academic literacy as a cognitive process or a mode of reasoning, and we strive to equip our students with intellectually empowering academic literacy competencies. We want our students to master the different ways knowledge is constructed, shared and contested in their respective disciplines and at university level. 
The UAL offers customised academic literacy courses at undergraduate level in seven faculties and several postgraduate academic reading and writing seminars. 
 
LECTURER 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be required to: 
  • teach academic literacy in different university faculties; 
  • contribute to curriculum design in the UAL; 
  • coordinate academic literacy courses offered in different faculties; 
  • conceptualize and conduct scholarly research in fields related to academic literacy;
  • write and publish articles in accredited (and preferably high-impact) journals;
  • present research at local and international conferences;  
  • perform academic administration and management;
  • participate in other departmental activities (e.g., seminars, colloquia, and symposia)
  • supervise/co-supervise Honours and Master’s students; 
  • collaborate with academic staff in the new School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; 
  • perform other duties as delegated by the Director of UAL. 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A doctoral degree (PhD) in Applied Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, or English for Academic Purposes
  • Appropriate teaching experience in academic literacy in English or English for academic purposes at a recognised higher education institution
  • Experience of hybrid (computer-aided) teaching methodologies
  • Evidence of publications appropriate to the post level in accredited journals or equivalent recognised outputs 
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision or co-supervision appropriate to the post level
  • Experience in curriculum design
  • Experience in coordinating large modules
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Excellent academic writing and reading skills

SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • teach at postgraduate level (Honours and Master’s), possibly across disciplines and allied departments in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; 
  • Design curricula, study materials and assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the UAL; 
  • coordinate academic literacy courses offered in different faculties; 
  • coordinate UAL’s tutorial programmes;
  • write and publish consistently in accredited (and preferably high-impact) journals;
  • facilitate academic writing workshops to postgraduate students across different faculties; 
  • present research at local and international conferences; 
  • generate third-stream income for the UAL and faculty;
  • independently conceptualize and lead research projects;
  • perform academic administration and management;
  • organize and participate in other departmental activities such as seminars, colloquia, and symposia;
  • participate in curriculum transformation/decolonization in the UAL;
  • mentor junior academic staff and postdoctoral fellows;
  • participate in promoting multilingualism in the UAL;  
  • participate in committee work in the faculty/institution;
  • establish research/teaching collaborations with other universities in South Africa, Africa, and beyond;
  • supervise/co-supervise Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral students; 
  • participate in community projects;
  • perform other duties as delegated by the Director of UAL. 
                                                                                                       
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A doctoral degree (PhD) in Applied Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or English for Academic Purposes from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Appropriate teaching experience in academic literacy in English, English for academic purposes, or academic communication at a higher education institution
  • Experience of hybrid (computer-aided) teaching methodologies
  • Experience in curriculum design
  • Experience in coordinating large modules
  • Evidence of successful supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students appropriate to the post level
  • Evidence of publications in high-impact accredited journals or equivalent recognised outputs appropriate to the post level (SL:5-8 & AP: 12-16 published research outputs)
  • Evidence of local/international conference presentations

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Department is looking for a qualified, experienced dietician, registered in South Africa, with an in-depth knowledge and current practice in medical nutrition therapy. 
 
The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Lecturing (theory and practical components) and taking full responsibility for various modules, including the administration and co-ordination of these modules according to the needs of the Department; 
  • These modules may include but are not limited to medical nutrition therapy related modules with a specific focus on paediatric nutrition; 
  • Clinical supervision of undergraduate students in the medical nutrition field of practice;
  • Planning and coordination of the 4th year internship programme (including, but not limited to lectures, placements, facility accreditations and site visits);
  • Participating in skills training necessary for medical nutrition therapy (undergraduate and postgraduate);
  • Module and programme development, co-ordination, negotiation and implementation of work integrated learning; 
  • Development of a postgraduate module in advanced clinical medical nutrition therapy;
  • Maintaining the electronic learning environment for students;
  • Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department;
  • Participate in the Department, School of Healthcare Sciences, and Faculty strategic initiatives relating to teaching and learning, research and community engagement;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Master’s degree in Dietetics;
  • Current registration with Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner (registered dietician);
  • At least one DHET accredited publication.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): 
  • Good knowledge of theory and application of various fields of dietetics and especially medical nutrition therapy;

The Department of Human Nutrition/Dietetics is known for the integrated theoretical and practical training in biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, psychology and anthropology, adult education, food science, human nutrition, as well as food service systems management. Graduates from this department are able to work with people because of the holistic training in the biological, health and human sciences. The graduate is also qualified to function independently because of the problem-solving skills acquired during academic and practical training and will be able to develop health care programmes in communities. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • The strategic and operational management of the Department; 
  • Planning and managing the academic and research programmes, and laboratories of the Department; 
  • Promoting academic excellence in teaching and research;
  • Recruiting and managing staff of the Department and promoting their continuous development; 
  • Managing the Department’s budget and raising funds for departmental activities;
  • Aligning the vision and programme of the Department with the broader vision of the Faculty and the University; 
  • Providing and/or facilitating mentorship of young academics in the Department; 
  • Offering leadership in transformation initiatives;
  • Playing an active role as academic leader of the discipline at a national and international level.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
For both Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor: 
  • A relevant Doctorate degree;
  • Registration with the HPCSA;
  • NRF rating or evidence or being an established researcher;
  • Community engagement;

  • Some curriculum development/innovation.
 
Associate Professor:
  • A relevant Doctoral degree

JOB PURPOSE: 
The primary purpose of the job is to ensure that the delivered software solution meets the specified requirements, to get information that the solution is practical, addresses the user requirements and problems, fits in the production environment, and is accepted by the prospective users. To reduce problems that may be experienced in the production environment to the absolute minimum and to deliver high-quality service.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidates’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Review user requirement specifications and identify test acceptance criteria:
    • Study the signed-off user requirement specification document, business processes, system integration, software need/s, and solutions to familiarise yourself with the business area, then confirm specification with client; 
    • Discuss the documented potential problems and/or potential system acceptance criteria or risks before system development to formulate well-defined acceptance tests with corresponding acceptance test outcomes. This is done in support of the system development team to consider during system design and development, attend to shortcoming;
 
  • Review software solutions and/or prototypes:
    • Review prototypes of software solutions to ensure that user requirements are addressed;
    • Identify gaps and shortcomings;
 
  • Project participation:
    • Provide input and feedback; 
    • Resolve or escalate as required;
 
  • Control test sessions:
    • Ensure that the identified testers are well informed about the specific test session's objective, the applicable user requirements, business processes and specified business rules before the scheduled test sessions;
    • Verify that the software solution is ready for testing;
    • Identify and gather the necessary test data to be showcased during test sessions, striving for realism that mirrors live system functionalities closely;
    • Make the necessary arrangements to ensure a suitable test environment for the scheduled test sessions;
 
  • Analytical system testing:
    • Test delivered software solutions accurately against user requirements specification document and report on any deviation; 
    • Use various test techniques to expose potential inconsistencies with specified business rules; 
    • Test software systems thoroughly according to test standards and best practices, using intensive extreme testing to ensure the system performs under all conditions without causing data corruption or significant disruption;
 
  • Test reporting:
    • Compile comprehensive reports;
    • Address concerns and provide feedback;
 
  • Enhance test analysis as a growing IT specialist field:
    • Implement and practice techniques that may improve the quality of the delivered software solutions, efficiency of system testing, and productivity of those involved during system and user acceptance testing;
    • Document and establish the test analysis methodology and standards;
    • Establish a network with other test analysts to investigate best practices.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Relevant Bachelors/BTech degree;
  • Software testing training courses;
  • A total of four years’ experience in: 
    • Software development testing;
    • Working in a team setup with business analysts, software developers, IT infrastructure specialists and consultants;
    • Testing software solutions within a variety of business domains;
OR
  • Three-year National Diploma;
  • Software testing training courses;
  • A total of six years’ experience in: 
    • Software development testing;
    • Working in a team setup with business analysts, software developers, IT infrastructure specialists and consultants;
    • Testing software solutions within a variety of business domains.
