Job description

Minimum requirements

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a PhD
  • Master’s degree in Health Services management.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in teaching Health Services Management at a tertiary level, and/or a minimum of three years’ clinical and/or professional experience post community service
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse, Midwife, Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager.
  • Minimum of five publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of successful research supervision of postgraduate students at Honours/Masters   level
  • Participation as a team member in a grant or submission of grant application as a principal investigator (PI)
  • Involvement in community engagement programmes
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Computer literacy
  • A valid driver’s license.

Minimum requirements

  • All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Therapy
  • A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Speech Language Therapist
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (i.e. Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Speech Language Therapist

 

Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals (A minimum of five publications in peer-reviewed SAPSE-accredited journals for Senior Lecturer)
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master’s and/or PhD levels, appropriate for the level AND
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team

 

Minimum requirements for Lecturer:

  • Experience in teaching and learning, and assessment practices in a relevant field. This encompasses clinical supervision in either academic or clinical setting
  • Ability to make the necessary preparation and coordination of various teaching and examination schedules within the Discipline or clinical environment, AND
  • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programmes

 

A successful candidate at the Lecturer level will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of the date of assumption of duty.

  • Evidence of providing service in a leadership position/s (academic leader of discipline, programme coordinator/research unit)

Job description

The SCHOOL OF MEDICINE wishes to appoint one academic with relevant experience in biostatistics who will be based in the Discipline of Public Health. The appointee will be required to support the teaching activities of the discipline of public health (notably for first and second year medical students, as well as some elements of the Masters in Public Health) and also to be a member of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) Biostatistics Unit (BSU), which involves one-on-one consultation with a substantial number of diverse student projects within the College of Health Sciences, as well as the development and facilitation of group level workshops, and the creation of downloadable documents and tools for BSU clients.

 

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements for consideration:

  • Applicants must have a Doctoral degree in biostatistics/statistics or equivalent field like data science;
  • Applicants must have practical experience with biostatistics/statistics consulting in an academic / research/ industry setting, or experience in supervising postgraduate students working on projects with data-science / statistics as the primary component.
  • Applicants must have advanced skills in performing statistical analysis and data management operations in standard widely used platforms (for example, Excel, R, SPSS, Stata)
  • Applicants must have experience in biomedical research.

Essential Skills

  • Applicants must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to independently handle most consultations with diverse student projects, though there is support within the biostats unit to share experiences and ideas, and receive some mentorship.
