Position Purpose
To support the Depot Engineer/Depot Engineering Manager by managing the quality, effective and safe execution of maintenance of all perway assets and condition assessment systems to optimise Rail Network availability and reliability and to ensure that standards are maintained and specifications are adhered to.
 
Position Outputs
.Optimise productivity of all allocated resources ▪Manage maintenance execution (RPM, CPM, MIB, MAB) ▪Incident management (MTTR, MTBF, theft, derailments, etc.) ▪Reinstating of Perway Infrastructure (loops, yards open lines ▪Technical investigation, report writing and applicable motivation(s) ▪Seconded to projects/investigations outside of Depot boundaries ▪Assist with budget compilation ▪Multidisciplinary support ▪Supervision ▪Safety, compliance and quality management ▪Resource management (vehicle, spares, material, tools, etc.) ▪Project and or Contract management ▪Identify and correct/report Infra related deviations ▪Quality Assurance inspections ▪Material/spares requirement planning and control ▪Technical support ▪Individual development and OJT ▪Manage training plan ▪Performance and Talent management ▪Administration tasks ▪Attend varies depot and cross functional meetings ▪Filling of vacancies and maintaining of structures ▪Do Audits, (material, machines, vehicles etc.)
 
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications & Experience: ▪A minimum of 5 years or more in a track environment as Track Inspector, preferably 1 yr supervisory or specialist experience ▪Advance Track master diploma ▪Train working rules ▪Physically fit ▪Be in a possession of (Code B) Driver’s, license and be competent and willingly to drive such vehicle ROC ▪Grade 12 ▪Qualified Artisan (Welder) ▪A minimum of 6 years or more in a track environment as Technical Superintendent (Welding) (6 yrs relevant and solid experience in taking accountability for the operation of own work area or as member of a team, concerning the quality, standards and outputs related to defined work procedures with at least 2 yrs at supervisory level or specialist experience) ▪Trains Working Rules ▪Code B driving license ▪Track Welding Phase 1 & 2 &3 ▪Advance Track Welding Certificate ▪Be in a possession of (Code B) Driver’s license and be competent and willingly to drive such vehicle Advantageous: Transnet leadership Development Programme

Position Purpose
To ensure the efficient, reliable and safe performance of the work team (traction linesman, trade hands, infra-assistants, and infra workers, trainees, contractors) performing maintenance, construction rehabilitation and repairs works on overhead electrical equipment, transmission lines to enable the effective running of electric power trains.
 
Position Outputs
1.To construct and maintain high voltage Overhead Track Equipment (OHTE) according to required standards ▪Assist Electrician with Yard Lights and cable repairs ▪Cast foundations and erect mast poles ▪Roll, sag and tension wires ▪Ensure that installation and repair bonding (negative returns circuit and blue pipeline bonds) are done ▪Isolate and earth OHTE ▪Ensure that flag protection duties are completed ▪Communicate with train operating and electrical control personnel ▪Do basic welding (exothermic and arc welding) ▪Work to “clearance from” and on live OHTE ▪Alignment of OHTE (Staggering, balancing of striking point and section insulator) ▪Fault finding on OHTE transmission lines and return circuit ▪Cable joining /splicing ▪To compile reports for feedback purposes
2.To supervise the team of traction linesmen, trade hands, infra-assistants and unauthorised personnel ▪To ensure that all workers have the correct PPE ▪Responsible for and do quality Inspections and Sign-off relevant Job Cards. ▪Responsible to ensure that Work Orders of Sub-Ordinates are timeously submitted. ▪Ensure that on track maintenance vehicles are kept in a serviceable condition. ▪Responsible for preliminary investigations to ascertain seriousness, damage, injuries/fatalities and motives as applicable regarding grievances and/or disciplinary action. ▪Motivate staff to improve productivity and maintain a high level of efficiency. ▪To provide instructions to the team ▪To put in place control measures to ensure that tasks are completed timeously ▪To ensure that the team understands the tasks needed to be performed

6.Supervise and monitor the work performed by team and contractors and ensure work compliance to contract terms, safety and quality standards ▪Conduct a risk assessment ▪Conduct green area / toolbox safety talks before commencement of work ▪Explain dangers and risks involved ▪Explain safe working procedures ▪Responsible for Safety of Sub-Ordinates and Visitors ▪Responsible for adherence to approved safe working procedures and methods. ▪Responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental issues including Nosa documentation. ▪Ensures Compliance to Act 85 of 1993
▪Co-ordinate Monthly Inspections R.M.D Sheets for lifting Equipment and tool checks. ▪Responsible for Safekeeping, Control, Issue and usage of detonators ▪Scrutinise for correctness and sign Work Permit books 3 Monthly and archive for safekeeping for 36 Months. ▪In the event of Contingencies, Responsible for Emergency Switching, Safeguarding the Area, Emergency planning and Transport of Personnel, Material and Equipment required. ▪Responsible to make sure safe methods has been using when work live ▪Responsible to make sure that the Flagmen stand on the correct distance by taking him/her out. ▪Responsible to make decisions on site [Safety Related Issues] ▪Conduct green area / toolbox safety talks before commencement of work ▪Explain dangers and risks involved ▪Explain safe working procedures ▪Make sure that everyone understands what is needed ▪Ensure that flag protection is afforded ▪Make sure that workers are wearing the correct PPE
▪Give necessary safety guidance prior work is performed, during and after continuously to ensure teams are working safely ▪Compile, verify and submit relevant safety reports according to requirements ▪Coordinate safety training and ensure that all subordinates have all the relevant and necessary training ▪Ensure that before training expires, employees are sent for refresher and ▪Ensure employee certification is checked starting with all work performed ▪Conduct individual Task Observations in line with safety standards and give feedback to individuals. ▪Keep records of Task observation feedback and ensure gaps identified are addressed timeously
7. To provide on the job training, coaching and guidance to subordinates, trainees and unauthorised personnel. • To provide mentorship and coaching to the team • Ensure that the correct working procedures are explained and understood • Physically demonstrate the correct way of working • To provide guidance and assistance to the workers • To identify the knowledge gaps, complete IDP’s and train accordingly • Arrange training/ refresher course and ensure attendance

Arrange transport from base station depot, staff and material from the station depot to site and back .Ensure that pre-trip inspection of the vehicle is done and recorded ▪Accident Investigations [Disciplinary Actions] ▪Ensure that the material required for the job is in the vehicle ▪To arrange transport for staff and material ▪Promote adherence to road regulations ▪To ensure staff adhere to on loading and off-loading safety procedures
 
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: ▪Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science ▪3 years’ experience as Traction Linesman ▪Code C1 (10) driver’s license with PDP OR ▪Alternatively, the applicant must have been trained and obtained the following from FoR: ➢Category A red/A brown certificate ➢Train working rules ➢Code 29 ➢RRV certificate ➢Road knowledge ➢Working at heights certificate ▪Min 5 years’ experience relevant to the position applied for ▪Code C1 (10) driver’s license with PDP
