Position Purpose
To clean Officers accommodation and assist the cook on the Dredger with galley duties to ensure a health clean living environment.
 
Position Outputs
•Cleans accommodation & toilets.
•Assist Cook with preparation of food.
•Washing of dishes & cutlery.
•Clean mess room and galley.
•Prepares mess room for meals.
•Assist Cook with daily requirements of victualising.
•Assist in regular stock taking.

Qualifications and Experience
• Grade 12 • SAMSA medical certificate - valid • STCW compliant – ancillary courses • Minimum 1 yr relevant experience on a vessel as a steward would be advantageous • Basic Certificate of Competency would be advantageous

Position Purpose
Is in overall command of the vessel and highest authority at sea, ensuring
that all international and local maritime laws and company policies are
complied with thereby ensuring an effective, safe and efficient management of
the vessel, crew, equipment and overall dredge program, allowing for optimal
utilisation of the vessel.
 
Position Outputs
1. Ensure compliance with the vessel's security plan as required by the International Maritime Organization.
2. Ensure that proper and accurate records are kept by the vessel in accordance with legal requirements and company procedures.
3. Ensure all aspects of the operation such as safe navigation, cleanliness, seaworthiness, management of all personnel and inventory of stores are complied with as well as maintaining the vessel's certificates and documents.
4. Responsible and accountable for the implementation and compliance of all aspects, standards and practices regarding international, national and local maritime laws, promulgations and standard business practices.
5. Implement, direct, coordinate, evaluate and control the overall dredge operations, targets and methods of dredging to ensure a safe, efficient, effective and timeous completion of the dredging targets.
6. Implement and control the companies’ policies, rules and regulations with regards to business practices, general safety and adherence to discipline thereby ensuring effective management of the vessel.
7. Identify, implement and administer on board training programs for all deck personnel to ensure that there is sufficient training being conducted for skills migration.
8. Prepare and monitor voyage plans in accordance with standard marine practices ensuring a safe and expedient passage between ports.
9. Monitor and control planned maintenance and breakdowns in accordance with the fleet department’s instructions thereby ensuring maximum dredger availability.
10. As per IMO, State Flag and Local Maritime Laws and regulations; First and foremost: Safeguarding the Dredger and Crew by enforcing, implementing directing, monitoring and evaluating subject standards and practices to ensure the overall safe operations of the dredger.
11. Responsible and accountable for the legal and practical Seaworthiness of the dredger, thus ensuring continued availability of the dredger for its intended Purpose. (The dredger may not leave the quay if it is not seaworthy).
12. Managing and maintaining IMO, State Flag requirements as stipulated to ensure the vessel's certificates and documentation remain valid and in force.
13. ISPS: Ensure implementation and compliance with the vessel's security plan as required by the International Maritime Organization and Port Security level.
14. Responsible for the executing of deck maintenance activities and management thereof.
 
Qualifications and Experience
• STCW 95 Certificate of Competency as Master on unlimited sea voyages as issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority. • 5 Years' experience as a Master in the Vessel of over 3000 gross tonnage. • Code 08 Drivers' license.

​CHIEF MATE

Position Purpose
To represent the Master in overall charge of the ship, responsible for the safe handling, manoeuvring and navigation thereof as governed by the International Maritime Organisation statutes and to maintain an effective, efficient dredge operation allowing for optimum utilisation of resources, thereby ensuring maximum dredging output whilst ensuring the safety of ship and crew.
Take on Master's legal responsibilities and accountabilities in his absence, as applicable
 
Position Outputs
1. Directing, monitoring and controlling the daily dredge operation, methods of dredging and safe navigation of the vessel thereby ensuring a safe, efficient and effective dredge operation thus achieving re-determined targets.
2. Monitor allocated deck maintenance, load line and LSA equipment schedules ensuring that the vessel remains in a seaworthy condition and compliance with International Statutory Laws and regulations.
3. Effect repairs in conjunction with the Chief Engineer after liaising with the Master Maintenance Manager in order to minimise breakdown time.
4. Takes charge of in conjunction with the Chief Engineer, for the quality control and safety aspects of specific repairs and maintenance as allocated by overseeing, liaising and monitoring the progress thereof including feedback and rectification of repair defects.
5. Responsible for the training of allocated deck personnel.
6. Prepare, report and record timeously and accurately all documents required by the company with regards to production, timecards, maintenance and breakdowns.
7. Take on Masters legal responsibilities and accountabilities in his absence, as applicable.
 
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 S4 Marine Studies. STCW 95 Certificate of Competency Chief Mate as issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority. 3 Years' experience sailing as a Chief Mate. Code 08 Driver's Licence.
 
Competencies
Knowledge required: Employee relations and practices. Computer literacy. Versed in DGPS navigational systems. Skills Required: Ship handling experience. Leadership Qualities. Communication skills.

​PIPE GRAB OPERATOR

Position Purpose
To generally maintain and specifically operate profile pipe and grab crane and related deck dredge equipment in order to achieve optimal effective operational dredging ability and production efficiency.
 
Position Outputs
1. To operate and dredge with grab crane.
2. To operate and dredge with profile pipe.
3. On completion of dredge inspect grab, profile pipe and associated equipment.
4. The following tasks are under general supervision of (1 ) Master : Effect repairs to minor defects found on inspection of equipment.
5.On the job monitor and assisting with major repairs to dredge equipment as instructed.
6. Effects the general running maintenance of dredge equipment within his work scope.
7. Under general supervision assist and monitor on the job layup repairs to profile pipe and grab crane.
8. Inspect, monitor and ensure dump door repairs as noted are effected/completed.
9. Complete planned maintenance records as required by Maintenance Manager.
10. Assist in general repairs as required.
11. Assist in general deck operations as required stations etc.
12. Store, monitor and maintain spares levels for running maintenance of deck dredge and hopper equipment.
13. Monitor/control the safety aspect of the above tasks.
 
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 (maths and science) Crane operator's certificate Welding certificate. Certificate of hand /eye coordination test (passed) N1/N2 mechanical qualification would be advantageous
 
Competencies
Knowledge required: Mechanical knowledge and skills pertaining to his scope of work. Versed in welding techniques /abilities to effect minor welding jobs. Basic hydraulic knowledge. ​PIPE MAN

Position Purpose
To effectively execute and monitor the side trail dredging process as a vital activity of dredging operations integral for optimal production and to manage and oversee auxiliary tasks associated with various production and maintenance requirements.
 
Position Outputs
1. Managed side trail pipe process and operation: To ensure optimal production and the reduction of cycle times for maximum efficiency.
2. Maintained critical equipment: To monitor status of and repair depth indicator for side-trail and displacement systems and effect wide range of repairs and maintenance to dredge deck equipment including calibrations and to store, monitor and maintain critical spares levels for running maintenance of deck dredge and hopper equipment.
3. Dredging material: To initiate and advise Dredge Master on best possible pipe positioning for maximun effectiveness and accuracy and maximum dredged quantities.
4. Reclaimed material: Initiating and monitoring this sensitive process to prevent blockages by adjusting flows and communicating with shore based support. This includes overseeing the safe coupling of the floating line and the technique of rain bowing.
5. Maintenance of the entire system of sidetrail, pumps, winches etc (all the equipment that is used by the pipeman).
 
Qualifications and Experience
Matric (maths and science). Mechanical background would be advantageous. N1/N2 qualification in mechanical would be advantageous. 3-5 Years' experience.
 
Competencies
Knowledge Required: Mechanical background. First aid at sea certificate. Advance firefighting certificate. Restricted radiotelephone operators' certificate (MARINE). Persona safety and social responsibilities with personal survival techniques. Skills Required: Numeracy and computer literacy. Code 8 driver's license. Determine safe sea working conditions. To be able to repair minor breakdowns and damages at sea. To operate radio without hesitance. Good communication skills. Quality standards. Leadership.
