FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

REPORTING TO FINANCE MANAGER OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN STATE THEATRE
SALARY: MARKET RELATED
PERIOD: PERMANENT
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Manage the bookkeeping function, using the Pastel Accounting Package, including maintenance of the general ledger:
- Maintain the chart of accounts;
- Ensuring that the financial records are accurate;
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions;
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting;
- Ensuring that every expense and income is properly documented;
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system;
- Preparation of month-end accounts (Profit and loss and balance sheet);
- Support month-end and year-end close process;
- Assist Financial Manager in the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances;
- Assist Financial Manager to prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements;
- Ensuring that the books of accounts are compiled every end of the month;
- Ensuring that the books of accounts are compiled at the end of every financial year;
- Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting as compared to budget;
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Honours Degree in Financial Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/ Administration.
- 4 years finance experience.
- 3 years overall combined accounting and finance experience.
- 4 Years Proven working experience as a Financial Accountant.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CRITICAL COMPETENCIES
• Well-developed written and oral communications skills;
• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills;
• Knowledge of GRAP and PFMA;
• Ability to work in a team environment;
• Hard working Diligent with strong attention to detail;
• Good understanding of business as well as financial issues;
• Sound decision making;
• A deep understanding of the accounting principles;
• Critical thinking and good analytical skills;
• Hands-on approach and proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Up to date knowledge of accounting regulations

PERIOD: 5-YEAR FIXED-TERM, PERFORMANCE-BASED CONTRACT
The South African State Theatre is a schedule 3A Public Entity under the PFMA. Mandated by legislation, including: the Cultural Institutions Act, 1998 (Act 119 of 1998) and the Culture Promotion Act, 1983 (Act 35 of 1983); as amended.
The South African State Theatre aspires to be the premier Pan-African theatre of choice for a distinctly inclusive, transformative, and innovative entertainment experience. A dynamic arts and culture institution which is an entertainment destination of choice for creativity, inspiration, education, innovation, social cohesion, and economic transformation.
To support and drive an environment focussed on artistic creativity and fiscal stability, the Council of the South African State Theatre, seeks to appoint a dynamic, professional and experienced senior executive to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s Degree coupled with a minimum of 10 years’ executive leadership experience. LLB, MBA or PhD will be an added advantage.
• Strong and sound understanding of South Africa’s arts and culture.
• Experience and sound understanding of South Africa’s policy and legislative compliance framework.
• Knowledge and experience in operating within the domain of public sector financial management and Supply Chain Management
• Executive management experience with exceptional ability to articulate the vision, mission and values of the South African State Theatre.
• Proven strong business acumen with a track record in successfully managing turnaround programmes and human resources.
• Enhanced communication abilities
• Sound stakeholder management
• Honesty, integrity and strong ethical values
• Decisive leadership and interpersonal relations skills
• Knowledge of the arts and culture industry, as well as the emerging trends in the performing arts sector is a key requirement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Governance, Policy and Strategy: Take overall responsibility and accountability for organisational leadership, provision of strategic direction, governance, and operational framework to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the South African State Theatre (SAST).
• Take overall responsibility for managing the organisation by ensuring the implementation of Council resolutions, review of policies, strategic planning, and maintenance of a healthy balance between artistic creativity and fiscal stability.
• Strategy Development: Implement the strategic goals and objectives of the South African State Theatre (SAST) in line with its mandate of promoting internationalisation, overall business viability, creativity, artistic expression and digital innovation.
• Provide direction and leadership towards the achievement of State Theatre’s artistic philosophy, vision, mission, values, strategic pillars, identity, its annual goals and objectives.
• Ensure that the Strategy, Structure and Budget of the SAST are aligned to improve organisational performance and achieve targets as outlined in the Annual Performance Plan (APP) and the Strategic Plan.
• Review of Business Model: Drive the process of constantly reviewing and implementing the Business Model with particular focus on enhancing brand identity, technological innovations, organisational culture, audience development, revenue generation, resource allocation, and stakeholder management.
• Monitoring and Evaluation of Organisational Performance: Take responsibility and accountability for the overall performance and success of the organisation, including the management of income and expenditure.
• Implementation of Core Business: Implement the SAST’s mandate of presenting high quality and agile artistic offerings, services and opportunities aimed at emerging and established artists, performers, entertainers, and businesses including small medium enterprises.
• Revenue Generation: Oversee the development and drive the implementation of the SAST’s revenue generation strategy, using artistic offerings, infrastructure, fundraising and sponsorship.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Oversee legislative compliance, good corporate governance, reporting and risk management in accordance with the PFMA and Treasury Regulations and ensure that the organisation receives positive audit outcomes from the Auditor-General.
• Stakeholder Management: Establish strategic partnerships and endeavour to maintain a healthy and beneficial relationship between the SAST and its stakeholders nationally and internationally, including the different government departments.
