The Innovation Hub Management Company (TIHMC), a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency SOC Ltd (an initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government for investing in strategic economic infrastructure and investment promotion so as to unlock economic growth in Gauteng). The Innovation Hub is the first Science and Technology Park in Southern Africa, established to spur the growth of smart industries in Gauteng so as to create a truly ‘smart’ province. It is now offering the following opportunity to a competent and dedicated person to join a dynamic team in Pretoria East.
SENIOR MANAGER BUSINESS INCUBATOR: MAXUM
Five (5) Years Fixed-Term Employment Contract with three months’ probation, Patterson Grade D5 Salary- R 831 716.00 Cost to Company
Reporting to the General Manager: Smart Industries, the purpose of this role is to manage the successful delivery of incubation services relating to the digital economy at The Innovation Hub, and, ensure effective operation and use of The Innovation Hub Maxum Business Incubator facilities and achievement of enterprise development goals and objectives; establish and manage relationships with both public and private sector stakeholders, public sector entities, universities and research institutions in Gauteng or entities.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Manage and improve incubation service offerings for all portfolio companies with an emphasis on ensuring high graduation rates of companies under incubation • Implement, improve and expand Lean Start-up methodology as the core management principles in incubation service offerings • Ensure that business development coaching focuses on customer development and successful commercialisation • With the assistance of commercialisation specialists, ensure funding investment preparation relevant to the start-up companies stages of development • Ensure effective management of the resources (e.g. personnel, mentors, and service providers) to effect the expected outcomes • Develop and leverage networks from the local entrepreneurship ecosystem with a specific focus on enterprise development, venture capital and private equity fund raising for portfolio companies • Ensure maintenance, management and improvement of appropriate monitoring and evaluation of all Maxum portfolio companies with focus on the growth, development and successful graduations and exits
• Develop an effective network of external entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholders • Ensure development of appropriate marketing material to promote incubated companies • Organise events relevant to the development of Maxum companies to facilitate networking, collaborations, business development and drive innovation; and • Produce regular progress reports and update plans on a quarterly basis and as and when requested.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Applying current legal and in-house HR procedures • To maximize SMEs satisfaction • To contribute to the positioning of TIH as a science and technology park through inter alia value-added offerings to targeted clusters.
MONITORING AND CONTROLLING: Planning work schedules and checking SMEs requirements • Training, organizing and monitoring of SMEs
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: The candidate should be in possession of an ICT-related Bachelor’s degree, coupled with at least 7 years experience in enterprise development as it relates to early-stage Start-ups and SMMEs. The successful candidate needs to have at least 5 years experience in a management or supervisory position. The suitable candidate should have experience in innovation management and technology commercialisation, preferably in the ICT sector. Knowledge and understanding of the Internet of Things (IoT) applications and the advanced manufacturing environment is an advantage. In addition, knowledge of contemporary issues relating to the digital economy is a plus. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, both orally and written forms, have good interpersonal and time management skills, and can prioritise and adhere to deadlines and pay meticulous attention to detail. The candidate should be a good planner and organiser.
