Job Title: Technical Officer - Database Administrator
Peromnes Grade: P11 = R381 376.89 CTC
Location: Head Office Pretoria
Reporting Line: Manager Engineering and Geohazards
 
Overall Job Purpose: The primary role of the Database Administrator is to maintain geotechnical databases by preparing, capturing, recording, indexing, verifying, storing, updating, archiving and safeguarding of all geotechnical data and contribute to building and maintaining of the geotechnical data warehouse, including data structures, for purposes of data analysis and operational reporting within the business unit.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Rendering of effective geotechnical database (hard and soft copy of reports) administration and support services
  • Monitoring and administering of report submissions from external Clients
  • Responsible for archive management, filing and record keeping of geotechnical report submissions
  • Effectively manage the geotechnical database by applying good practices of database design, data integrity and data backup
  • Ensuring proper and timeous maintenance and updating of the geotechnical database
  • Perform database queries, also collating of data and compilation of input forms
  • Retrieve archives requested for scientific research by keeping records of records retrieved
  • Store and maintain supplemental archives
  • Responsible for all archiving executions of activities by inputting and retrieving information
  • Provide and maintain geotechnical data and associated documentation to internal and external Stakeholders
  • Actively contribute to processes associated with the geotechnical data administration
  • Ensure geotechnical data infrastructure integrity, performance, capacity and service continuity
  • Capturing all received transactions completely, accurately and timeously
  • Ensuring all requests for manual capturing of transactions are clear and complete
  • Completing and accurately registering the geotechnical data on the relevant system timeously
  • Attaching all schedules/documents to data confirmation to be distributed accordingly
  • Filing and sorting all data confirmation by user code, action date within agreed timeframes
  • Maintain an effective filing system for ease of tracking and retrieval of documents
  • Develop a database of contacts and updates regularly to ensure current information
  • Assist in the implementation of Records and Document Management Systems within business unit
  • Maintain documentation of all geotechnical data activities carried out in the business unit
  • Maintain an efficient and effective correspondence and document management system
  • Complete own projects tasks and follow-up as directed and/or instructed
  • Escalate and report progress and/or any other technical problems to supervisor / Manager
  • Provide reports related to work received and work completed
  • Maintain updated records of all project documents in the project archives for easy of traceability
  • Adherence to prescribed geotechnical databases Standard Operating Procedures
  • Assist with the maintenance and update of Standard Operating Procedures when required
  • Ensure appropriate quality control
  • Ensure that office equipment and tools are properly maintained and are in good working order
  • Participates in relevant and application training courses, workshops etc as needed/directed
  • Contribute to the knowledge exchange or sharing activities
  • Compile and submit own Personal Development Plan

Qualification and Experience:
  • Grade 12
  • NQF Level 5 in Diploma in Administration or equivalent qualification
  • Three to Five (3 – 5) years’ working experience in a Database Administration environment
  • Fully computer literate with an intermediate level of MS Office
  • Experience and sound knowledge of database administration support practices
  • Exposure to database management and maintenance
  • Ability to capture data, operate computer and collate/archive geotechnical data and electronic documents
  • Ability to manage and maintain geotechnical data files and databases / electronic documentation
  • Ability to interpret relevant directives and compile management report
  • Able to input text and numeric data into spreadsheets and databases
  • Excellent data entry / typing speed
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Project Administration capabilities
