The SAPS offers careers in various fields. If you join the SAPS you can either become a police official or a civilian employee. Police officials are employed in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995). Civilian employees are employed in terms of the Public Service Act, 1994 (Act No 103 of 1994). Most functional Police Officials are directly involved in preventing, combating or investigating crime. The other Police officials and civilian personnel carry out support functions.

Generic Requirements:
Applicants must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post;
Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12),
Be a SA Citizen,
Be fluent in at least two official languages, of which one must be English;
Be in possession of a valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence (for Police Act members only),
Must have no visible tattoo/s when wearing summer uniform (for Police Act members only),
Must, have no previous convictions or cases pending.
Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification.
Post Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/National Diploma with Internal Auditing/Audit and/or Accounting as major subjects. A minimum of 2 years of auditing experience or alternatively a minimum of two years’ experience within SAPS environment. Studying towards CIA or CFE will serve as an added advantage. A minimum of 1 year experience with regard to the use of TeamMate or any other audit software will be an advantage. Membership of IIA or any other relevant professional organisation will serve as an added advantage. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a security clearance and obtain a security clearance certificate. Extensive travelling is a requirement of taking up the post.

Core functions:
Conduct audit projects as per the Internal Audit Operational Plan that includes the planning of the audit, execution of the audit and reporting in terms of IIA Standards and SAPS Internal Audit manual using TeamMate. Prepare and review planning documents, working papers, audit programs, draft findings and draft audit reports. Attend to review notes from the supervisor. Supervise work done by Interns. Assist in managing audit budget effectively and efficiently. Conduct follow-up audit projects as per the Internal Audit Operational Plan that includes the planning of the audit, execution of the audit and reporting. Assist in other Internal Audit required. Assist in managing of the administration of the Office which includes human resource management, financial management and supply chain management.
General

The certification must not be older than three months.
*Qualifications and driver’s licences submitted will be subjected to
verification checking with the relevant institutions. The South African Police Service will verify the residential address of applicants and conduct reference checks.
*Appointments will be made in terms of the SAPS Act, 1995 or Public Service Act, 1994 as applicable to the post environment.
*Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to a medical assessment by a medical practitioner as determined by SAPS prescripts.
*Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to undergo a lateral entry training programme at a SAPS training institution, where applicable.
* Applications must be mailed timeously. Late applications will not be accepted or considered.

* If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview as well as a practical assessment.
* Reference checking will be conducted on all short listed applicants.
*Short-listed candidates for appointment to certain identified posts, will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate, whose particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to that post.
