South African National Parks (SANParks) is the leading conservation authority in all national parks, responsible for 3 751 113 hectares of protected land in 20 national parks. It draws its mandate from National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, Act 57 of 2003.

SANParks is not obligated to employ the Intern upon programme completion.

SENIOR MANAGER: IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Description:
The organisation requires the services of a Senior Manager: Information Technology Instructure in the Information and Technology department. This position will be based at Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria.
Requirements:
- Must be in possession of a 3-year IT degree or Diploma
- Must be in possession of a cloud architect certification (Azure, Google, Amazon) and one of the following IT certifications (Certified network professional or Aruba certified design professional or any other equivalent certification). The certification must not be older than 3 years.
- Should have 10 years of IT Infrastructure experience in a complex organization.
- Should have 5 years of management experience leading IT infrastructure services.
- Should have 3 years of project management experience in IT Infrastructure projects. A project management certification will be advantageous.
- Should have experience in building asset management and ongoing maintenance plans.
- Should have extensive knowledge and experience in implementing the following: Cloud architecture, cloud implementation, data center operations, database administration, SD-WAN, MPLS, network engineering, client/server computing, hosted systems and hardware platforms.
- Should experience delivering a consultative and partnering approach with stakeholders.
- Proven relationship management experience with external vendors.
- Proven Ability to apply technology solutions to business problems.
- Experience with programme and portfolio delivery, driving and managing projects and activities across multiple streams, realizing benefits against investment.
- Proven success in driving and delivering continuous improvement in a large organization.
- A deep understanding of the interdependent relationship between IT infrastructure information security and the applications/services they enable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the development, procurement, and proactive maintenance of IT Infrastructure services.
- Identify and evaluate the value of All IT Infrastructure services and agree with their criticality to SANParks operations.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives as key enablers to the architecture.
- Develop and implement plans to protect the infrastructure investment using a modern, forward looking asset management framework.
- Establish and monitor the ongoing utilisation of infrastructure services and establish measures to pre-empt future needs across data, bandwidth, and resilience for all services.
- Develop enterprise and solution architectures and align infrastructure standards, tools, and methodologies to these.
- Undertake appropriate levels of planning across infrastructure assets to ensure the SANParks' future needs are met, and costly unplanned replacements and upgrades are avoided.
- Deploy resources for optimal coverage services, with expertise balanced across the full range of systems to mitigate "single points of failure" situations.
- Plan to ensure an appropriate balance of business-as-usual activity and new operational/strategic project activity.
- Ensure comprehensive disaster recovery architecture is maintained and agreed infrastructure-related services are in place during business continuity events.
- Develop, implement, and regularly test business continuity, disaster recovery, emergency, incident response and recovery plans.
- Evaluate and respond to sensitive and contentious operational or service delivery issues to minimise technical, financial, reputational, and business risks.
- Provide reliable expert technical advice, analysis and recommendations and build relationships across key customer/stakeholder groups.
- Identify opportunities to further meet their organisational needs, and foster relationships with IT peers.
- Development of business cases, specifications and feasibility studies, and partnering with the IT projects unit and project management office.
- Maintain strong partnerships with vendors and suppliers, oversee and contribute to product evaluations, services and tender evaluations.

The above position is a fixed-term contract position up to 31 March 2024 renewable on mutual agreement. This position is on a C4 Paterson Salary Band total remuneration package of R 26 828.94 as the incumbent will stay outside the park. The incumbent will also receive a Tool of Trade allowance of R4 313.97 (must be a suitable vehicle) pending approval as per SANParks Delegation Framework.
Requirements:
- National diploma in Conservation or Environmental Management
- Minimum 2 years of project management experience
- Experience in rehabilitation techniques and/or invasive alien plant clearing is essential for this position

GENERAL MANAGER: TECHNICAL SERVICES
Park: Kruger National Park
Description:
SANParks requires the services of a General Manager: Technical Services in the Kruger National Park. The position is based in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park and is responsible for oversight of all park infrastructure which includes: the provisioning of all essential services at all rest camps and ranger posts; approximately 4500 building structures; approx. 900km of tar roads; 1700km of gravel roads; 2500km of management roads; the provisioning of potable water through 12 water purification plants; 24 sewerage purification plants; 45km of bulk water supply systems; 12 solid waste management plants; over 550km of fencing more than 36 electrical emergency power supply systems and 5 off-grid and 2 grid connection solar electrical system sites. The Technical Services department provides planning, design, contract and project management functions and has a staff complement of approximately 400 employees. The responsibilities of the position include fleet management of approximately 370 vehicles.

Requirements:
- B.Sc. Degree qualification in Civil/Electrical Engineering (other degrees in the built environment may be considered dependent on the skills and experience of the applicant).
- Professionally Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) in terms of the Engineering Profession of SA Act, 46 of 2000 (or registration with relevant professional body).
- 8 to 10 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (or registered with a relevant professional body) and experience in a Managerial position in a multi-project and diverse infrastructure delivery environment.
- Experience in financial management and a commercial understanding of service delivery with a demonstrable track record of setting and meeting financial, productivity and infrastructure delivery targets.
- Knowledge of the legal and legislative framework within which SANParks operates and an understanding of all legislation relevant to delivery of infrastructure within the built environment and protected areas.
- Knowledge of infrastructure delivery management systems (IDMS).
- An understanding of the construction procurement framework and processes.
- Experience in infrastructure life cycle management from planning, feasibility assessments, design, procurement, construction monitoring and maintenance.
- Experience in managing and overseeing multi-disciplinary teams and projects.
- Project and programme management skills.
- Contract management and experience of key contracting methodologies within the engineering and construction industry.

Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and management towards the rendering of comprehensive infrastructure management programmes and technical services in KNP.
- Ensure and oversee the provision of all infrastructure services including roads, electricity, water and waste management according to national guidelines and legislation.
- Lead the planning, costing, feasibility, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of strategies and programmes relating to infrastructure life cycle maintenance and delivery including:
- Conditional assessments and consequent prioritised maintenance and recapitalisation programmes;
- Facilities maintenance.
- Programme and project management in KNP of infrastructure and technical services projects.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation in implementing infrastructure and maintenance programmes (such as CIDB, EIA's, water and waste licences, etc.).
- Oversee the management of all equipment and capital resources to ensure accountability by the Department: Infrastructure and Technical Services.
- Manage the planning and implementation of Infrastructure Grant, Expanded Public Works Programme and other government funded projects within the framework of government’s vision of delivering infrastructure services to all (NIMS).
- Manage contracts to ensure financial goals are achieved within set budgets.
- Ensure sound financial management, executive management reporting, and human capital management of the Department.
