HOTEL MANAGER: GOLDEN GATE HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK

Description:
A challenging vacancy currently exists for a dynamic, professional and customer-focused Hotel Manager to manage the Golden Gate Hotel and Chalets. The successful candidate will have full responsibility for the property and the hotel’s day-to-day operations and profitability by effectively planning, leading, organizing and controlling all aspects of strategy, marketing, budgets, standards and finances.

The ideal candidate will need to have proven hospitality and management experience and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Patterson D5 band job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service of SANParks.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business Administration or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience as a Hotel Manager in three and four-star hotels.
  • Additionally 3 – 5 years’ experience in key hotel departments especially kitchen, food & beverage and conferencing/banqueting.
  • Strong understanding of hotel management best practices and reservation software.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with great attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft packages and relevant booking systems
  • Good written and verbal communication, negotiation, project management, conflict resolution, and community liaison skills
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours
  • Sound organizational, administrative and negotiation skills
  • A valid driver’s license



Responsibilities:
  • Manage all operations regarding hotel services, related facilities and amenities
  • Maximize profitability regarding occupancy, Food & Beverage, banqueting and conferencing
  • Liaison with external parties including suppliers, travel agencies and conference planners
  • Maintain optimal staffing levels according to business demands
  • Ensure that property and assets are maintained according to SANParks standards
  • Research guest needs and implement strategies to meet those needs
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and SANParks HR policies
  • Comply with and maintain occupational health and safety requirements
  • Encourage and facilitate the development of staff complement
  • Monitor employee performance and conduct regular evaluations to help improve customer service.
  • Implement a sales marketing plan
  • Provide input to park budget and manage hotel budget
  • Manage financial reporting to park and corporate management
  • Ensure safety and security of guests, staff and park assets
  • Ensure that all catering exceeds the prescribed standard and regularly refresh food and beverage concepts and conferencing.
