Description:
A vacancy currently exists for a Technical Officer at Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The successful candidate will report directly to the Technical Manager, his/her primary responsibility will be to supervise and manage the personnel in the technical services department section in the Park.
 
The Cost to Employer remuneration package is based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson C4 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks. The successful candidate will have to stay in official accommodation inside the Park.

Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities that are required for the job:
  • Matric/Grade 12
  • N4 Certificate - Civil/Electrical (NQF level 5 Learnership Qualification) Coupled with five years of practical experience and 3 years at Supervisory level.
  • National Trade Certificate or Trade Test will serve as an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in Air-conditioning/HVAC will be an added advantage.
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Code EB driver's licence is required but a C1 driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other relevant pieces of legislation.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours.



Responsibilities:
The key performance areas of the successful candidate will include the following:
  • To execute and supervise trade related work such as repairs or maintenance to buildings structures, services, roads and equipment;
  • Experience of bulk water reticulation systems, reservoirs, pumps and related control equipment, Sewer systems, septic tanks, soak aways pumps and related control equipment, electrical installations and cable networks, repairs, storage and safety requirements.
  • To investigate and resolve problems that are of a technical nature;
  • To supervise and administer the Technical section;
  • To liaise with trade representatives/specialists;
  • Perform all administrative related tasks of the section including budget control as well as ordering of materials/parts;
  • Provide technical support to all Park related projects in the absence of a project manager,
  • Work closely with contractors or projects managers when the need arises;
  • To ensure compliance to Occupational Health and Safety requirements;
  • To maintain tools/machinery, equipment and materials to optimise the functionality, and
  • To ensure compliance with SABS buildings regulations on all maintenance constructions.
