The SAMRC Conference Centre is a well-known business unit within the SAMRC based at the Head office in Cape Town. This office is responsible for hosting events for internal and external clients. We take pride in what we do by offering a professional and personal service to our clients.
This position requires enthusiastic candidates to work flexible hours over a 2-year contract period. Generally, 8 hours per weekday, however, the incumbent might be required to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, etc.) to suit the needs of our events.
We are looking for a Chef with creative mind, excellent communication skills, confident, dedicated and motivated with good customer service experience.
 
Responsibilities will include:
  • Manage kitchen which includes:
    • Staff performances/contracted staff
    • Create/Calculate and manage menus
    • Cooking of menus
    • Manage stock (includes purchases and wastage)
    • Manage preparation & output of all catering requests
    • Manage health & safety in kitchen
    • Manage customer complaints, comments with Centre manager.
    • Quality Control of food
    • Kitchen hygiene is practiced and adhered too
  • Weekly planning schedules
  • Manage customer complaints, comments with Centre manager.
  • Manage evaluations of functions hosted.
 
Core Requirements:
  • 3 – 4 year Degree/Diploma in Culinary
  • 6 years proven experience as a chef
 
Advantageous
  • 6- 10 years’ Sous Chef experience
  • Proven experience as a Chef or in a similar role, preferably in a corporate or conference center setting.
  • A valid driver’s license with own transport.
  • PDP certificate or willing to apply for a certificate.

Chief Officer: Finance Team Lead
3 Year Contract Post
 
The Contracts Team Lead is directly responsible for management of the externally funded contracts Accounts Payable section of the Finance Division, ensuring that duties in relations to the accounts payable are carried out to the required standards to achieve the SAMRC financial and business objectives and contract specific requirements. The role is responsible to ensure all accounts payable transactions are accurately and timeously account for, ensuring all financial policies; applicable legislation and internal control procedures are adhered to including contract specific requirements. The incumbent should have solid knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, 1999 and National Treasury Regulations; as well as Statements of GRAP; Supply Chain regulations and VAT to meet the challenges of this post.
 
Key Responsibility Areas will include the following:
• Register the foreign donor funded project (FDFP);
• Prepare and submit the vat returns for the FDFP; approve the payments for externally funded projects;
• Manage and coordinate the submissions of payment request for specific projects
• Establishing the process for FDFP vat claims; invoicing etc.
• Prepare monthly reports and submissions as required by the various funders.
• Supervising the contracts team
• Financial quality control assurance of processed invoices; payments; subsistence and travel transactions and debtors invoices and receipts.
 
Core Requirements:
• 3-year accounting degree
• 3 years post qualification supervisory Finance experience with VAT
• SAICA – AGA(SA) membership or any other accredited accounting professional body
• Knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, 1999 and National Treasury Regulations
• Solid knowledge and experience of working with GRAP, VAT and supply chain regulations
 
Added Advantage
• 3-year accounting degree with articles
• 5 years financial management & supervision experience
