Research and Development Operations has a vacancy for a Financial Officer at Gerotek Test Facilities. Applications are invited from people who meet the qualification and experience requirements below:
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Provisioning of a complete cashbook and petty cash function by ensuring accurate allocation of receipt and payment transactions in compliance with accounting principles. Ensure proper control over property, plant and equipment and controlled items of the Armscor Group’s practices and procedures.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Capturing of creditors transactions, i.e. accurate matching of the purchase order to invoices, capturing of invoices to finance system. Including obtaining of invoice certification by authorised personnel and make payments within30 days. 
  • Capturing of commercial sales transactions in the financial systems, i.e. issuing sales quotations as per approved tariffs and invoicing clients as per Armscor policies/practices. 
  • Management of debtors’ collection process in line with Armscor policies and procedures. 
  • Capturing of inventory transactions in the finance systems, i.e. capturing counting results and conducting spot check during inventory count. 
  • Capturing of the division fixed assets transactions in the finance system including addition of new assets, barcoding and verification and conducting annual assessment of asset useful life. 
  • Support function to Manager: Finance in establishing a credit facility for new clients and increase of credit facility and reviews of credit facility within the division. 
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of assets, creditors, debtors, bank, petty cash, fleet card, loan account and conduct month end closure. 
  • Verify that the tax invoice complies with the VAT Act especially in cases where the supplier is registered for VAT. 
  • Process payments if invoices and supporting documents are correct; for approval by authorised signatories. 
  • Responsibility for checking subsistence and travel (S & T) claims and petty cash forms and reimbursements. 
  • Do cash flow planning for the day, report on daily cash flow requirements to Armscor Corporate Finance. Under guidance, responsible for moderately complex accounting activities relating to monitoring the flow of funds. 
  • Correctly capture transactions to update other modules, e.g. Debtors, Creditors and General Ledger at month-end. 
  • Reconcile petty cash balance, fuel fleet cards payments made and cash received to the approved float and replenish petty cash and fuel cards as and when necessary. 
  • Capture bank statement transactions on Accpac. 
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to handle queries and provide assistance and/or information. 
  • Assist with insurance matters as required and perform ad hoc insurance activities. 
  • Stand-in for colleagues as and when required. 
  • Provide Internal and External auditors with documentation required and other queries. 
  • Capture loan account transactions on the Accpac System. 
  • Filing of petty cash re-imbursements, fleet card transactions and S & T documents.
  • All related functional area documents are filled in a manner that will make it easy to retrieve them during audit. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • National Diploma in Accounting/Commerce 
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a fi nance related environment
 
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
  • Functional knowledge of relevant legislation (PFMA, VAT Act) 
  • Knowledge of financial systems (e.g. Accpac) 
  • Knowledge of cashbook processing 
  • Knowledge of bank and petty cash reconciliations 
  • Knowledge of the process for handling and replenishment of petty cash

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Manager holds the responsibility of operational planning, management of the section (employees, budgets and technology) as well as giving direction of the Section Technology Plan (10 years scope) including providing systems and technology support to the SA Navy and other clients.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • To formulate and implement divisional (IMT) strategies and plans and align these strategies and plans with the departmental and corporate objectives. 
  • To manage the budget of the section in a cost effective manner (R 50 million). Manage the Underwater Sensors and Systems Section performance against agreed targets and budgets, and within policies and standards as referenced in ARMSCOR Management Documents and IMT ISO 9001 procedures. 
  • To manage, develop, maintain and motivate individuals and teams and to build constructive relationships between individuals within the section and division (including discipline, grievance, counselling, morale and motivation, culture and attitudinal development and quality management issues).

  • Represent Section on the Navy/IMT Technology Coordination Committee (ITCC) and Research Institute Management Committees (RIMC’s). 
  • Provide System Level Specialist Consultancy in the applicable technology areas of the section as contribution to the analysis of operations of naval systems and the environment in which they operate. 
  • Development and maintenance of client interface and communication (Top ranking; SA Navy officials, DOD technology officials and international technology professionals, other government agencies (DDT, DST, etc.)) 
  • Tailor and lead Systems and/or Software Engineering effort wrt technology and client requirements. Ensure the tailoring and execution of system and/or software engineering principles to technology development within the SA Navy practical environment 
  • Ensure Quality Assurance conformance wrt to work in section 
  • Deliver excellent customer service by giving high priority to understanding customer’s requirements and ensuring that customer needs are either met or exceeded. 
  • Ensure that the section activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care. 
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of the applicable technology areas within the section related contemporary development, technologies, methods and concepts, and provide suitable interpretation to the IMT SEM, other IMT section managers, IMT staff and clients. 
  • Empower the section’s personnel by creating a sense of ownership of jobs or projects by providing clear expectations, control of resources, responsibilities, and coaching; offering help without removing responsibility. 
  • Directly responsible for planning, structuring and monitoring completion of project milestones within budget and schedule with combined budget of > R25 million per annum.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master’s Degree in Science/Physics or the applicable applied physics or mathematical sciences. Additionally, an applicable middle management qualification will be preferred.

SENIOR AMMUNITION MARKING TECHNICIAN

Acquisition department has a vacancy for a Senior Ammunition Marking Technician. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below:
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The refinements, introduction and maintenance of Ammunition Marking drawings to local (and international)ammunition requirements as rendered to Armscor Project Managers (APMs), the Department of Defence (DOD) and Defence Industry.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • The effective and continuous preparation, checking, maintenance of a wide variety of ammunition drawings for Landwards systems, Air Force systems, Naval systems and Military Health Services 
  • Advise to stakeholders in terms of in-house ammunition document requirements. 
  • The continuous supply of information, advice, training to Armscor personnel, DOD personnel on the National Military Stock Codification System and ammunition marking. 
  • Periodic reporting to the Ammunition Marking Specialist on the status (new/obsolescent) of ammunition and their related documentation. 
  • Guidance to stakeholders in terms of the correct, military stock codification identification groups, classes, RAINs, description and application. 
  • Identify, verify and advise on any ammunition marking discrepancy to various stakeholders. 
  • Present and negotiate in order to defuse discrepancies amongst industry ammunition experts (i.e. Export technical requirements). 
  • Confirmation and interpretation of complex enquiries of stakeholders from Ammunition and Explosive Technical Manuals (A&ETMs). 
  • Provide direct support to the Ammunition Marking Specialist for technical as well as administrative requirements. 
  • Manage own inventory of assets (drawings and manuals). 
  • The continuous revision of ammunition marking drawings to conform to international safety and health hazards, standards and / or specifications. 
  • Perform quality assurance on and ensure accuracy of ammunition marking documentation created for the DOD by the industry and Armscor. 
  • Be responsible for the configuration control of the explosives register of the Explosive Board of South Africa. 
  • Be responsible for the generation of explosive certificates for the Defence Industry. 
  • Attendance of the Explosives Board meetings. 
  • Attendance of the Insensitive Munitions Steering Committee. 
  • Attendance of the Ammunition Indaba. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 12
  • National Mechanical/Chemical Engineering Diploma
  • Preferably also a qualified Ammunition Fitter artisan or armourer
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • 4-7 years’ experience in military ammunition management and in a diverse range of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, their packaging and transport requirements is mandatory
  • Experience in usage of drawing/design software packages such as CAD / Imagineer optional.
 
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
  • Drawing/design software packages such as CAD / Imagineer optional
  • Sound and in-depth knowledge of a diversified range of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, handling, packaging, marking and transport.
  • Strong knowledge of DOD ammunition marking policy documentation.
  • Strong knowledge and skills to exercise configuration control on ammunition marking.
  • Average knowledge of quality concepts and processes.

SCAFFOLD HAND

Armscor Dockyard, situated in Simons Town in the Western Cape, has a vacancy for a Handyman.Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below.
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To assist skilled Chief Handyman, Supervisor or Section Manager with a variety of scaffolding activities, maintenance and services. To supply an effective and efficient scaffolding service to the South African Navy and Armscor Dockyard.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Erection of Scaffolding on-board vessels, in workshops and in the dockyard area. 
  • Maintenance and upkeep of all scaffolding equipment. 
  • Understand and apply all applicable safety and regulatory requirements. 
  • Transport variety of tools, equipment and supplies safely to the job site to enable work to progress efficiently. 
  • Cleaning equipment as guided and directed. 
  • Safely utilise basic hand and power tools. 
  • Assist with docking and undocking of vessels at the Dry Dock and Synchrolift under the guidance of the Dockmaster. 
  • Perform general cleaning of workshop and mess areas by wiping up spills, sweeping, vacuuming and removing waste. 
  • Provide transport and lifting capability support by driving a fork lift and cherry picker. 
  • Cleaning of ablutions. 
  • Dusting and polishing of all office furniture and telephones. 
  • Remove all waste for disposal. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 12 
  • A certificate of competence for scaffold erecting will be an added advantage 
  • A forklift and cherry picker licence will be an added advantage 
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 1 year experience in erecting and dismantling scaffold in an industrial or similar environment. 
 
SPECIAL PROFICIENCY/SKILLS 
  • Ability to assist skilled workers in the execution of their duties. 
  • Knowledge of general hand and power tools. 
  • 5S Cleaning standards 
  • Basic safety practices 
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces 
  • Ability to work on a Scaffold 
  • Must be willing to work overtime
