PLANTATION MANAGER
Status: Permanent
Location: Uitsoek Plantation
Grade: D3
Reporting line: Regional Manager: South
Role Mandate
To manage a small plantation (Uitsoek) including all different activities within the plantation according to company policies, targets and objectives to maximize plantation profitability and sustainability.
Key Accountabilities
• Identify plantation risk and implement risk mitigation strategies
• Develop and implement security systems in accordance with company regulations
• Minimize CARS, manage CAR system and retention of FCS certification
• Ensure consistent improvement of risk management processes
• Manage plantation according to FSC principles
• Ensure implementation of health and safety programmes and fire protection
• Develop and implement mitigation strategies, environmental conservation policies in accordance with FSC requirements
• Ensure management of growing stock, maintenance of fixed and moveable assets
• Coordinate plantation activities and ensure maximisation of plantation resources
• Manage and implement establishment, weeding and pruning operations according to company policies
• Manage, implement thinning and clear-felling operations in accordance to company standards
• Manage and maintain roads infrastructure according to company policies
• Facilitate management and control pre-identified annual timber volumes
• Lead optimisation of forest and non-forest products
• Ensure pre-identified productions targets are met
• Establish and maintain good relationship with internal and external stakeholders
• Liaise with CSI regarding community projects and provide continuous support on implementation of community projects
• Maintain membership, participate and provide input to Joint Community Forum
• Maintain membership and participate on relevant FPA’s
• Prepare detailed annual plantation budget and ensure approval thereof
• Manage and control budgeted production cost
• Manage and control annual expenditure within budgetary framework
• Manage unplanned financial and operational risk
Minimum Requirements
• National Diploma in Forestry (NQF level 6)
• B-Tech/ BSc. Degree in Forestry (NQF Level 7) will be added advantage
• 5 Years’ experience as a Senior Forester in silviculture/ harvesting operations
• Valid driver’s license

MANAGER: PAYROLL
Status: Permanent
Location: Nelspruit Office
Grade: D2
Reporting Line: Senior Manager: HCIS, Governance & Reporting
Role Mandate
To effectively manage the centralised payroll (wage & salary) function for the SAFCOL Group in line with stipulated deadlines, and in compliance with company policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Key Accountabilities
• Ensure net salary run (ACB) is conducted timeously
• Prepare third party payments and captures on financial system
• Prepare salary journals from payroll and captures to financial system
• Ensure timeous and accurate payments to SARS to avoid penalties
• Ensure that payroll third party payments are processed and paid accurately and timeously
• Oversee the process of data capturing into payroll system is accurately and timeous captured
• Maintain and file all payroll input data for audit purpose
• Ensure employees’ salaries are paid timeously and accurately
• Ensure proper administration of medical aid deductions and payment thereof
• Administer benefit plans
• Build and maintain effective working relationship with all relevant internal and external stakeholders
• Resolve and manage all payroll related queries
• Prepare and process annual salary increase schedule and upload into payroll system
• Develop and oversee implementation of payroll policies procedures and processes
• Ensure no fictitious payments are made
• Ensure that payroll complies with all relevant legislations
• Identify payroll system ineffectiveness and provides solutions
• Ensure payroll system is constantly updated and upgraded to meet the relevant changes in legislation
• Ensure payroll inputs are valid and reviewed before salary payments are made
• Ensure paid employees have been confirmed by the relevant Business Unit
• Compare employees on payroll system against budgeted headcount
• Manage South African Revenue Services (SARS) payments
• Prepare and submit COIDA employee’s earning data for COIDA assessments
• Perform monthly backups and rollovers to next month
• Execute payroll stop further entries
• Prepare and submit bi-annual and annual tax reconciliation to SARS
• Prepare and disseminate IRP5/IT3’s for all SAFCOL employees
• Identify risk areas and provide mechanisms to mitigate possible risks, which include ghost employees
• Continuously monitor opportunities and incidences of fraud and ensure these are mitigated accordingly
• Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and support internal and external audits
• Prepare and processes payroll clearing journals monthly
• Ensure that payroll clearing reconciliations are done monthly and cleared, where necessary
• Perform employee debtor’s reconciliations monthly and summarise it for management reports
• Process monetary applications and its recovery from payroll
• Reconcile the advance account and other payroll deductions
• Ensure that all payroll employees have signed performance agreements
• Conduct regular performance review for payroll employees
• Identify and draw up action plans to address poor performance (payroll employees), where applicable
• Identify training or development needs for payroll employees and suggest appropriate intervention to close gaps, when required
• Ensure ongoing training and development of payroll employees
• Implement consequence management in line with SAFCOL disciplinary policy and procedure, when required within the payroll section
• Ensure that payroll costs are correctly allocated within business units
• Provide payroll related reports after each month-end closure to relevant line managers and relevant stakeholders
• Ensure interface between payroll and financial system by downloading reports, preparing journals, and importing to financial system
• Prepare annual budget report and submit to relevant business units
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, HR or similar (NQF Level 7) qualification
• Post graduate Degree – will be an added advantage
• Membership to payroll bodies – will be an added advantage
• 5 year’s Payroll Administration experience of which, 2 years in a supervisory or management role
• Experience in managing a payroll for a company with 2000 or more employees - will be an added advantage
• Experience in SAP and Sage 300 - will be an added advantage
• Valid driver’s licence
• Be prepared to travel and to work additional hours to resolve Payroll and System problems
