SENIOR NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER

Purpose: The Senior Network Security Engineer is responsible for the daily monitoring, device administration, management, security event correlation, audit log management, access control, support, incident response, and call management of the Network.
Requirements: •Matric Certificate (NQF Level 4) •Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Equivalent (Essential) •Honours Degree in Information Technology or Equivalent (Advantage) •Relevant industry security certifications (Essential) •Certified in Cisco (Essential) •3 – 5 years’ experience in network security engineering.

Duties: •Provide input to management into the functional plan of the department •Deliver performance according to performance expectations to ensure value add to the business •Share knowledge and expertise with team and stakeholders with the objective to add value •Provide input into departmental reports to support decision-making •Provide input into departmental budget to management •Support management with tracking of expenditure in line with budget •Build and maintain healthy and sustainable relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally •Gather feedback from stakeholders to improve and optimise service delivery •Identify issues and problems within allocated area and make recommendations to implement changes •Investigate and address problems in the most appropriate manner •Provide updated reports in area of responsibility to Managers to support decision-making •Ensure customers are able to provide feedback on team performance •Deliver optimal customer service to customers that adds value to the business and generates a low rate of complaints from customers •Deal with customer complaints quickly and effectively •Ensure regular communication with customers •Share customer feedback with team members to ensure customer service is improved •Establish networking environment by designing system configuration, system installation, defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards •Design and implement new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment •Maximise network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages •Schedule upgrades and collaborate with network architects on network optimisation •Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments •Secure network system by implementing and enforcing policies •Ensure compliance with access standards and monitor access •Compile a report on any security breaches •Configure, support and administer firewalls, Virtual Private Networks and Security appliances in line with IT security policy •Provide information and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations •Design, setup and configure complex switching environments •Design, setup and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications •Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS, Ether-Channel (Bonding), etc •Configure and install client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network •Maintain multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems and regular maintenance with both private and public facilities •Configure routing and switching equipment and of hosted IP voice services •Conduct work related to assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives •Provide remote support to of on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation •Remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation •Liaise with project management team, other 3rd line engineers and service desk engineers on a regular basis •Respond to enquiries from staff, administrators, service providers and site personnel and outside vendors to provide technical assistance and support •Remain up to date with relevant market trends and incorporate information into your work to add value •Ensure that opportunities are taken on with a “can-do attitude” and with a focus on continuous learning.
