PSYCHOLOGIST (EDUCATIONAL)

Purpose: The Psychologist collaborate with management and assist in carrying out screenings and training sessions. The Psychologist also serves as the Corporation’s counsellor and guide the psychological needs of the RTMC staff including the Road Traffic Enforcement team and the Road Traffic Trainees.

Requirements: •Matric (NQF Level 4) •A three-year Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Psychology or equivalent (NQF Level 7) • An Honours Degree in Psychology (NQF or equivalent Level 8) • A Master’s Degree in Psychology approved by the HPCSA or equivalent (Level 9) •Registration with the HPCSA as an Educational Psychologist • 3 years experience as an educational psychologist

Duties: •Counsel trainees to help solve conflicts and problems in learning and adjustment •Develop individualized educational plans in collaboration with lecturers and other staff members •Maintain trainee records, including special education reports, confidential records, records of services provided, and behavioural data •Serve as a resource to help the Academy and trainees to deal with crises, such as separation and loss 
•Attend workshops, seminars, and/or professional meetings in order to remain informed of new developments in educational psychology •Design classes and programs to meet the needs of trainees with special needs •Refer trainees and their families to appropriate agencies for medical, vocational, or social services •Initiate and direct efforts to foster tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity at the College •Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs and other services, such as behavioural management systems •Provide educational programs on topics such as classroom management, teaching strategies, or parenting skills •Conduct research to generate new knowledge that can be used to address learning and behaviour issues •Compile and interpret trainees’ test results, along with information from teachers and parents, in order to diagnose conditions, and to help assess eligibility for special services •Assess individual trainee’s needs, limitations, and potential, using observation, review of academic records, and consultation with lecturers •Select, administer, and score psychological tests •Provide consultation to parents, teachers, administrators, and others on topics such as learning styles and behaviour modification techniques •Collaborate with other educational professionals to develop teaching strategies and school programs.
