Purpose: The Manager: Safety Engineering is responsible for ensuring that road traffic safety engineering related needs are gathered and managed in a central unit.
Requirements: •Matric •Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent (Essential) •Registered as a Professional (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) (Essential) •An Honours Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Advantage) •At least 7 years’ experience in Road Safety Engineering, of which at least 3 years at Supervisory level •Registered as a relevant Professional for at least 4 years.

Duties: •Give input for the development of the Operational Plan •Provide team with clear performance standards, job profiles and development plans •Monitor progress to ensure successful implementation of plans and achievement of targets •Review policies and processes •Prepare and submit section reports or ad hoc reports •Identify potential changes to SLA’s with stakeholders •Liaise on a regular basis with all stakeholders and ensure that relationships are maintained •Ensure that stakeholder complaints are dealt with and resolved within defined turnaround times and RTMC policies and procedures •Ensure compliance with all legislative and regulative requirements •Assist with the development of the Policy •Assist with the development and implementation of the National Road Safety Research Framework and the National Road Safety Research Agenda •Develop and ensure the implementation of all processes and procedures •Manage and coordinate the implementation of the South African Road Assessment Programme (SA-RAP) in line with iRAP principles •Develop, review and ensure the implementation of the South African Road Safety Audit Manual •Manage and coordinate the implementation of Road Infrastructure Audits in line with the South African Road Safety Audit Manual •Monitor and evaluate road safety audit and network level assessments in SA to ensure that there is compliance with set standards •Compile a report with audit results •Ensure that High Risk Roads and Hazardous Locations are identified and reported on •Develop and maintain relationships with road authorities across all spheres of government •Attend the National Road Traffic Engineering Technical Committee (NRTETC) and its subcommittees and working groups •Coordinate and communicate road traffic and safety engineering technical standards and guidelines with best practices and national legislation •Coordinate and collaborate on road traffic and safety engineering amongst key stakeholders in the fraternity •Develop a culture of road safety within relevant Road Authorities during the delivery and maintenance of road infrastructure •Identify, implement and manage road safety engineering related technical projects •Identify relevant service providers in conjunction with Supply Chain Management •Identify financial implications and make recommendations •Compile road safety engineering related project reports •Support the training of staff within all systems, policies and procedures to minimise non-conformances.
