The Road Accident Fund's mission is to provide cover to all road users within the boarders of South Africa to rehabilitate and compensate persons injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely and caring manner, and to actively promote safe use of our roads.

Purpose of the Job: Responsible for supporting the Litigation Manager in the provision and management of the RAF litigated matters I the hands of the panel attorneys and outside 15km radius. He/She will support the litigation Manager in leading a team of litigation staff and ensure that best practice is adopted with regard to the management of the above named services.

- Undertake preliminary analysis of claim documents to produce a synopsis of the claimant's case which will identify key issues involved in the allegations being made in terms of the summons and particulars of the claim
- Ensure analysis of the outcome of claims investigations and interpret, in conjunction with the RAF's panel attorneys as required, the range of available options open to the RAF in a litigated matter
- Oversees management and review of systems to ensure the prompt provisions of discoverable documents and the investigation of claims to enable the RAF and panel attorneys to assess liability, quantum and the defence of claim
- Ensure timeous instructions are given to panel attorneys on litigious dispute matters
- In conjunction with litigation staff attend consultations with counsel and panel attorneys in preparing for court hearing and ensure all necessary follow up action is taken, as required by the Litigation Manager
Ensure provision of an estimate of the anticipated cost of each significant aspect of the litigated claim
- Oversee and ensure detailed bill reviews to implement sound litigation management and expose control
- Ensures gathering and considering of relevant information (Including detailed confidential documentation such as police court, medical and personnel records), consider with regard to instructing experts in a range of medical specialist
Ensure investigation, evaluation and settlement of claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to the organizational strategy on reduction of legal and claims costs
- Oversees and ensures that investigations are done timely and in terms of relevant court rules. This including but is not limited to:
- Identification of and taking statement of witnesses
- Accident reconstruction (including photographs, diagrams, measurement, etc.)
- Production of documents
- Purchase order/contracts/lease agreements
- Internal statements, memos and correspondence
- Inspections, etc.
- Blue prints, if applicable
Verify and analyze data used in settling g claims to ensure that claims are valid and that settlements are made according to RAF practices and procedures
- Ensure all information regarding litigated cases is recorded on the RAF's claims database.
- Maintain claim files such as records of settled claims and an inventory of claims requiring detailed analysis
- In conjunction with the Litigation Manager, develop, implement and review processes, systems, policies and procedures for the effective and efficient management of all correspondence relation to medico-legal request.
Prepare and analyze reports to be submitted as and when required by Litigation Manager and management committees
- Ensure maintenance of the con tent on the claims database in accordance with the RAF policy and procedure. Provision of regular and ad-hoc reporting to Senior Managers and RAF management Committees
- Submit analyzed reports on newly litigated claims and keep the Litigation manager informed, on regular basis of the progress of the investigation of these cases
Contribute to the RAF's overall corporate governance processes to assure efficient and effective administration of litigated claims and compliance RAF values and code of conduct including PFMA
- Review individually, at least annually the performance of immediate subordinate's staff, provide guidance on personal development requirements and advise on and initiate, where appropriate, further training as required by the Litigation Manger
- Support the Litigation Manager in workforce planning the department
Qualifications & Experience

- Four (4) year Degree in Law or equivalent.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or Advocate
- Relevant 5 Years' experience in the claims environment of which 2 years must have been on a supervisory level.

Remuneration
At the cost to company of minimum package applicable to this position is R591 298.00 per annum and will be negotiable commensurate with experience.
NB: "RAF offers Total Employment Cost packages with no additional contributions from the Employer, successful candidates are required to structure their packages in manner that will suit their needs".
