The Road Accident Fund's mission is to provide appropriate cover to all road users within the borders of South Africa; to rehabilitate and compensate persons injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely and caring manner; and to actively promote the safe use of our roads.

Purpose of the Job: Provide support to the Litigation Manager in the provision and management of the RAF litigated matters in the hands of the panel attorneys and outside 15km radius
Key Performance Areas
Conduct Preliminary assessment of litigated files
- Investigate, evaluate and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to a reduced legal costs ratio.
- Report complex, severe exposure claims for reinsurance purposes.
- Assessment and settlement of loss of earnings.
- Ensure efficient and cost effective finalization of claims through settlement negotiations.
- Perform assessment of merits and quantum.
- Assess general damages in terms of old and new Act.
- Assess settlement of loss of support.
- Assess settlement of funeral expenses.
- Assess settlement of medical expenses.
- Block settlement.
- Appoint assessors for merits and quantum verification.
- Request ES from panel attorneys assess and give instructions.
- Loading of court orders.
- Perform writs assessment and reporting.
- Perform approval of offers.
- Perform bridge assessment and reporting.
Recommend a litigation strategy and actions to bring the matter to finality
- Confirm with plaintiff attorney to hold pleadings\ notices in abeyance until cancellation by either plaintiff attorney.
- Give instruction to panel attorney on:
- Issues on plea.
- Issues on merits.
- Issues on quantum.
- Agreement of experts, where applicable. - Arrange follow up consultation date.
- Diarise the file
- Verify and analyze data used in settling litigated claims to ensure that there is a litigious dispute and that decisions for further litigation process are made according to company practices, policies and procedures.
Provide panel attorney with file contents for trial preparation
- Confer with panel attorney's legal counsel on the litigation strategy to be embarked on in preparation of trial and receive requests for approval in terms of the delegation of authority.
- Ensure high court practice notes are followed.
- Evaluate outstanding information.
- Assess claims for possible settlement.
- Evaluate expert medico legal reports.
- Follow up on outstanding information until all documents has been received.
- Repetitive diarising on 6th weekly basis.
- Examine claims investigated by panel attorneys; further investigate questionable claims to determine whether to authorize settlements or tenders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Four (4) year Degree in Law or equivalent.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or Advocate.
- Relevant 3 Years' experience in the Claims party environment.

- Knowledge/skill in court rules and litigation.
- A good understanding of the organization's litigation infrastructure, services provided and customers/users.
- A good understanding of the organization's business and how panel attorneys effectively to contribute or are to contribute to the RAF litigation processes.
- Statistical, numerical and analytical principles and processes.
- Excellent communication skills orally and in writing.
- Awareness of RAF vision and Strategic /business objectives.
- Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Remuneration
A total cost to company of minimum remuneration package applicable to this position is R349 998.00 Per annum and will be negotiable commensurate with experience.
