ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE
TECHNICAL MANAGER PROTECTION
(TECHNICAL SERVICES)
POSITION CODE: 210129
TASK GRADE: 15 (R582 636 – R810 072 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)

Qualifications and experience required: 
·         BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering
·         Registered as a Professional Engineer Technologist
·         4-5 years’ relevant experience
·         Code B driver’s license

  • Managerial and Supervision skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Report-writing skills
  • Incumbent be physically fit and healthy – must be able to perform manual operations and duties on foot
  • Must be able to cope with mental stress that arises from potential or actual physical threat due to working with high voltage
  • Good sight, speech and hearing ability (may not be colour blind – interpreting colour wiring codes and plant status indication are required)
  • Ability to meet frequent pre and undetermined deadlines and interruptions in the job
 
 
Job purpose 
Responsible for the management, control and functioning of the Protection Division which include specialized duties regarding power system protection for the purposes of providing a sustainable electrical supply to the industrial, commercial and domestic community in the municipal area. 
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, a medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
