SENIOR TOWN PLANNER
(LAND PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT)
POSITION CODE: 240459
TASK Grade 16 (R750 600 – R1 043 532 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • SACPLAN accredited degree in Town Planning and Regional Planning NQF Level 8 or B-Tech: Town or Regional Planning.
  • Registration as a Professional Planner with SA Council for Planners (SACPLAN).
  • Computer literate in MS Office applications.
  • Five to seven years relevant experience as a Professional Planner.
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence.

  • Strategic management and forward planning to achieve short- and long-term objectives of section.
  • Analytical and technical skills in assessing, understanding, and delivering business requirements.
  • Excellent report-writing, monitoring and evaluation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable municipal policies, as well as any other relevant legislation.
 
Job purpose:
  • Planning and controlling the key performance areas and result indicators associated with the Land Use Management, Strategic Planning and Policy Spatial Development Framework Section through the provision of an efficient and effective management system relating to statutory and non-statutory processes pertaining to land use, strategic planning, policy planning, administration, finance, community participation, execution and application of procedures, regulations and standards in order to ensure plans and related policies identified in the Integrated Development Plan are afforded priority.
  • Addressing the total social and physical environment taking cognisance of the statutory, physical, demographic, economic, sociological parameters and how these influence, and are influenced by local, regional and national development policies as well as in the management and administration of this Section.
  • Providing support and guidance associated with providing a professional town planning service, analysing policies, strategies, socio-economic/geographical information and/or legislative requirements supporting the Human Settlements Directorates service delivery objective, as defined in the IDP and Business Plan.
  • Providing support and guidance associated with providing a professional town planning service, formulation of spatial development framework plans, to formulate policies and to analyse policies, strategies, socio-economic/geographical information and/or legislative requirements supporting planning and service delivery objectives, as defined in the IDP and Business Plan of the Directorate.






As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
