NATIONAL REGULATOR FOR COMPULSORY SPECIFICATIONS (NRCS)
 
The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) was established on 1 September 2008 in accordance with the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications Act. It is an agency of the dti, established to administer compulsory specifications and other technical regulations with the view to protect human health and safety, the environment and to ensure fair trade, in accordance with Government policies and guidelines.

Basic Salary Per Annum R397 414,66
 

Purpose: To sample and conduct inspections on processed meat and fishery products, food processing facilities and fishing vessels to determine compliance to compulsory specification requirements, for the Business Unit Food and Associated Industries in areas as mentioned above.

KPA/ Key outputs:
  • Conduct inspection and market surveillance. 
  • Planning, organizing and controlling of inspection functions.
  • Inspection of fish and processed meat products, to ensure compliance with standards and food safety requirements.
  • Inspection of processing facilities and vessels. 
  • Interaction with factory management. 
  • Report on process deviations.
  • Report on maintenance, construction and hygiene deviation at facilities.
  • Sampling.
  • Prepare reports according to departmental procedures and compulsory specifications
  • Sanctioning as per regulations and procedures for non- compliance.
 
 
Requirements for Qualifications and Experience:
  • National Diploma in Food Technology or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid driver’s licence
 
Knowledge & Skills:
Food technology. Knowledge in food quality management systems. Implementation and auditing of food safety management systems (HACCP, ISO 22000). Good understanding of inspection systems (ISO 17020). Knowledge of canning, freezing and chilling technologies. Knowledge in the fishery and meat industries would be an advantage. Basic knowledge of legislation, which governs the business unit.   Good knowledge of the NRCS Act and Regulations and services offered. Good knowledge of MS Office programs- MS WORD, MS EXCEL.

·        Must be willing to work overtime including weekends and public holidays.
·        Must be willing to travel and be away from home for extended periods.
