NATIONAL REGULATOR FOR COMPULSORY SPECIFICATIONS (NRCS)
The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) was established on 1 September 2008 in accordance with the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications Act. It is an agency of the dti, established to administer compulsory specifications and other technical regulations with the view to protect human health and safety, the environment and to ensure fair trade, in accordance with Government policies and guidelines.

Total Cost to Company Salary Per Annum (R1 057 112,35 – R1 287 408,35)
Purpose: To provide specialist knowledge and advice to the business unit on all the compulsory Specifications that the business Unit regulates including the newly published Processed Meat Compulsory Specification and to oversee the development and maintenance of Compulsory Specifications and Technical Regulations in the area of responsibility at the NRCS.
KPA/ Key outputs:
· Develop and Amend Compulsory Specifications and Technical Regulations for processed Meat.
· Develop and amend Work instructions, Procedures, Policies and Manuals for the business unit.
· Represent the NRCS and the processed meats at Local, Regional and International Forums.
· Lead, chair and coordinate national and international committees.
· Stakeholder Management.
· Interpret Acts, Standards and Regulations and advise the Area of Responsibility and the NRCS.
· Develop and monitor succession planning for the business unit.
· Participate in the Compilation of the Divisional Strategic Plan and Business Plan.
· Cost Management
· Training and Skills Transfer.
· Corporate Governance and Risk Management (Quality Management)
· Health and Safety Management (if applicable in area of responsibility)
Requirements/ Experience:
· Degree in Food Science or Food Microbiology or equivalent in the relevant sciences
· 8 years’ experience in a regulatory and/or technical environment or equivalent
Knowledge and Skills:
In-depth knowledge and interpretation of the NRCS Act; In-depth knowledge of applicable compulsory specifications and technical regulations; Good understanding of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act; In-depth knowledge of International Food Code and Food Standards setting processes in Codex Alimentarius; Good understanding of legislations of various other trading Countries; In-depth and good knowledge of the Standards Act; working knowledge of risk management; Presentation skills; Project management skills; Budgeting principles; Good knowledge of the inspection and testing methodology including microbiological methodologies and the interpretations thereof; In-depth knowledge of Quality Management System; ability to facilitate and foster good learning platforms; In depth knowledge of corporate governance policies and procedures; Ability to initiate stakeholder engagements and establish synergies within the various stakeholders. Good knowledge of MS Office programs- MS WORD, MS EXCEL.

- Must be willing to travel and be away from home.
- Must be willing to work at other regional offices on a short time basis.
