The National Library of South Africa wishes to make the following appointment at its Pretoria Campus:
GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Salary scale: R 308 967.00 – R 357 102.00 Total Cost-to-Company
The objectives of the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) are to contribute to socioeconomic, cultural, educational, scientific, and innovative development by collecting, recording, preserving, and making available the national documentary heritage and promoting an awareness and appreciation thereof, by fostering information literacy, and by facilitating access to the world’s information resources. The NLSA employs approximately 200 employees.
We are inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment in the position of Graphic Designer on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will report to the Director: Communications, Marketing and Stakeholder Relations.
The Graphic Designer is accountable for ownership of all design requirements for the National Library of South Africa (NLSA); ensuring that all communications and marketing collateral including print, web, and digital collateral is designed and delivered to agreed standards and deadlines from concept to fruition.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Be the custodian of the NLSA brand with active input into the evolution of the brand.
• Design marketing collateral from concept through to the finished product and all intermediate stages.
• Design strategic documents from concept to print ready artwork.
• Visualisation and mock ups – produce graphic and physical examples of collateral.
• Undertake advertising and promotional design for digital, print and promotional collateral from concept to production ready artwork.
• Undertake and edit photography for use in marketing collateral.
• Proofing of collateral (colour, standard and presentation) prior to print.
• Manage approvals of licensed artwork.
• Manage and maintain the in–house image library.
• Maintain the Corporate Identity Manual ensuring that it is effectively implemented.
• Work with the Communications and Marketing, and other, teams to supply marketing material, both printed and digital.
• Printing procurement – source providers and maintain up-to-date knowledge of prices, materials, processes and deadlines/delivery, as required.
• Manage and deliver of ad hoc design related projects.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• A minimum NQF level 6 qualification in Graphic Design or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
• Three years of design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm.

• Printing knowledge an advantage.
• Expert knowledge in the design production process.
• Able to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
