INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: RESEARCH PRACTITIONER (INNOVATION)

BACKGROUND
The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to fill the position of Independent Contractor: Research Practitioner (INOVATION. Reporting to the Manager: Research and Innovation, the successful candidate will assist with conducting research, data analysis and reporting as well as overall project coordination for the Research and Innovation sub-unit.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A SAQA accredited Honours degree in Innovation/Business/Information Technology or any other relevant qualification. A Master’s Degree would be an advantage. Minimum 3 years’ experience in conducting research, project management or research coordination experience and Sound understanding of research methodologies. A valid driver’s license.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Excellence in coordination and project management skills. Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis. Ability to evaluate, verify, and edit research data. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and data control standards. Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solve technical and methodological issues during any research project.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute towards drafting of research proposals and concept documents. Assist in literature review, data collection, data capturing and research report. Provide project coordination for innovation projects, to ensure all logistical arrangements for project event are in order regarding scheduling dates and booking venues. Contribute on facilitation of partnerships with stakeholders involved in innovation research in KwaZulu-Natal. Assist with organizing Research and Innovation projects logistics and administration, including preparing reports, conference papers and journal articles.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
The successful candidate will be offered a six-month contract with remuneration at DPSA Consultation fee 6-8, B2 – Partial overheads, B2,2. No mark-up at R368 p/h.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (x12)
REF: IC/RA –01/2023
Background:
The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizens to provide the services of - Independent Contractor – Research Assistance (IC). Research assistants are required to assist the Economics and Statistical Services Unit with coordination and supervision of fieldwork data collection for various surveys projects to be conducted across KZN districts.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a minimum NQF Level 9 qualification from an accredited tertiary institution. Applicants who are in possession of qualifications in the Economics or Statistics related fields will be given preference. 06-12 months previous experience in research data collection is required. Applicants who held supervisor position in the data collection will be preferred. Driver’s License required (must be more than three years and able to drive).
Core competencies:
Computer Literacy. Ability to operate a mobile device. Good communication skills. Innovative and solutions oriented. Proficient in English and isiZulu. Must apply within the KZN district they reside in.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate fieldwork data collection and supervise data collectors to ensure accurate data is collected. Fieldwork deployment preparation – confirm the availability of assigned fieldworkers within designated district. Orientate data collectors on the data collection tool (questionnaire). Assist with stakeholder/key informant interviews data collection for projects.
Terms of Appointment:
The Independent Contractor will sign a 2-month contract remunerated at R738 per day (NQF 9) or R864 per day (NQF 10).

The Moses Kotane Institute is looking to appoint a suitably qualified South African unemployed youth interested in gaining experience within the photography field.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
National Diploma, NQF level 6 in Photography or Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, NQF level 7 or related qualification from an accredited tertiary institution. Minimum 1-year practical experience (including pre-graduation experience). Portfolio of evidence. Driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist MKI brand visibility by providing photographic photography services. Travel to all MKI events to execute photographic duties. Share edited photography on relevant social media pages. Provide editing and photo printing as and when required. Assist with other digital communications functions. Proficiency with photo editing software and camera equipment.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Proficiency in Microsoft office applications. Strong use of a variety of photographic equipment to capture events, people, objects, or scenes for records, art or commercial use, creativity, and communication skills.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
The successful candidate will be offered a 24-month fixed-term contract, remunerated at R7 000.00- R10 000.00 (Total Cost To Entity)

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: MARITIME RESEARCH x1
REF: MR/01/2022
BACKGROUND
The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to fill the position of Independent Contractor: Maritime Research. Reporting to the Manager: Maritime. The successful candidate will assist with conducting research in KwaZulu Natal major ports at an Independent Contract capacity in the area of Maritime in terms of the set annual performance targets of the Economic and Statistical Services unit.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A suitable candidate must hold a Masters (NQF 9) Degree in Maritime Studies or related qualification from accredited tertiary institution. PhD in Maritime Studies or related field will be an added advantage. At least 3 years’ experience in Maritime related research. A valid driver’s license.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Analysis and problem solving skills. Good understanding of the procedures used in gathering and reporting statistics. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be proficient with at least one data analysis software.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute towards undertaking maritime research on challenges affecting South African seafarers and women in the industry. Undertaking seafarers and women in maritime skills gap analysis. Assist with improving the quality of maritime related research for the entity. Improving research based strategic decisions and influence policy direction for the development of maritime sector in the province. Assess demand and supply for the seafaring skills and compile reports with recommendations.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
The successful candidate will be offered a short term contract A2.2 No mark-up (R384 per hour).
