Job Description
Mhlathuze Water seeks to appoint a seasoned professional to fulfil the newly created role of Research, Development and Innovation Manager. This is an exciting opportunity that will suite an individual who is a self-starter with a passion for research and innovation. Reporting to the GM: Scientific Services, the incumbent in this role will provide expert technical leadership, strategic direction and management/execution of the research, development and innovation (RDI) portfolio by implementing appropriate strategies, plans and technologies to meet needs and improve efficiencies throughout the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage and implement the Research, Development and Innovation programme, including the establishment of the business unit within the Scientific Services Department;
  • Conduct research based on strategic priorities identified, develop business cases and facilitate the approval thereof;
  • Investigate the application of new technologies and innovation in business processes;
  • Identify and advance quality and process improvement opportunities throughout the organisation;
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams within and external to the organisation to develop and implement projects and other initiatives;
  • Provide process technology support, including but not limited to second line process investigations, trouble shooting and optimisations, evaluation of chemicals, period quality control co-ordination on treatment chemicals, and improvement in water and wastewater treatment processes/designs.
  • Conduct presentations to audiences within the organisation and the industry on research initiatives planned and undertaken; Manage human and financial resources within the section;
  • Ensure knowledge retention, records management and reporting on a regular basis.
 
 
Requirements
  • Matric/Grade 12
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree (NQF Level 9) in Chemical Engineering or Water Utilisation or similar, equivalent, relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of five years post qualification (after acquiring Master’s Degree) experience with a demonstrable track record of technical expertise in the field of process science/engineering in the water and/or wastewater sector, including national/international recognition through publications and engagement in technical forums.
  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Reasonable knowledge and application of computer programmes such as MS Word, Excel, Projects and PowerPoint.
  • Leadership and managerial skills; Strong problem solving/decision making skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills with excellent client facing skills and the ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation;
  • Valid Drivers Licence , minimum of Code B
