Job Description
An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced individual to fulfil the role of Automation Technician in the Central Maintenance Section of Operations Department. Reporting to the Automation and SCADA Specialist the incumbent will be required to provide essential automaton expertise at various plants within the operation of the business.
Responsibilities
- Provide support in the section with plant instrumentation inspection, testing calibration, maintenance, repair and certification of plant instruments including pneumatic instrumentation.
- Inspection and testing of automation controls including VSD’s, PLC and SCADA for water and waste water treatment plants and associated pump stations.
- Develop and implement new and revised methods and procedures; analyzers and develops solutions to special work problems
- Work with Operations, Central Maintenance and the Projects Section in evaluating performance and efficiency on machinery and equipment
- Consult with suppliers, engineering consultants and manufacturers in order to review specifications and apply best practice in the maintenance of plant instrumentation.
- First line maintenance troubleshooting on all breakdowns involving VSD’s
- Management of service providers who are contracted to work on VSD and associated equipment maintenance
- Maintain records of work performed and capture instrumentation data.
Requirements
- Matric/Grade 12. A minimum of a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering (LC).
- At least five years’ experience relevant to Automation in an industrial environment.
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician, at minimum will be advantageous
- Detailed knowledge of VSD’s (ABB, SIEMENS & WEG), PLC, SCADA and Telemetry is required.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 is essential.
- A good command of IsiZulu and English.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Basic Computer Literacy
- Technical problem solving, trouble shooting and ability to solve complex instrumentation related plant breakdowns.
Essential competencies: problem solving, interpersonal skills, teamwork and co-operation, communication skills, and SHEQ Awareness.
The Incumbent must be prepared to travel in our area of operations and reside in the Richards Bay/Empangeni area as s/he will be required to work standby and overtime as and when necessary.
