The Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) invites applications from dedicated and academically performing students to serve as Peer Assisted Learning Student Assistants in 2026. The PAL programme aims to enhance student learning, improve retention, and promote collaborative academic engagement across faculties.

Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate structured peer learning sessions under the guidance of academic staff.
- Support students in understanding course material and developing effective study habits.
- Assist lecturers and PAL Champions in monitoring attendance and engagement.
- Provide feedback on student participation and academic challenges identified during sessions.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and submit reports as required.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Minimum requirements:
- Applicants must be registered full-time students or recent graduates of Mangosuthu University of Technology.
- Must have passed the module(s) for which tutoring support will be provided.
- A minimum average of 65% in the module applied for.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to academic excellence and student success.
Salary and contract terms:
Stipend: (based on qualifications and hours allocated per module)
Contract Duration: March 2026 – December 2026

PEER ASSISTED LEARNING (PAL) FACULTY CHAMPIONS (x3)
The Teaching and Learning Development Unit (TLDC) invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply to serve as Peer-Assisted Learning Faculty Champions. This role is critical in ensuring the effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student academic support initiatives within faculties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the faculty's implementation and coordination of peer learning support programmes.
- Monitor and evaluate student participation and engagement in academic support initiatives.
- Analyse programme effectiveness using student performance data and feedback.
- Serve as a liaison between students, lecturers, and the TLDC.
- Prepare reports on programme performance and recommend improvements.
- Identify challenges in student support services and develop innovative solutions.
- Advocate for and promote student support initiatives within the faculty.
- Report directly to the Peer Assisted Learning Coordinator at TLDC.
Minimum requirements:
- Enrolled or completed an Advanced Diploma (proof of registration must be attached).
- NQF 8 Postgraduate qualification will be an advantage (proof of registration must be attached).
- At least two years of experience in student support, peer-assisted learning, or academic development in higher education.
- Knowledge of peer-learning models, tutorial programmes, and student support strategies.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to analyse student performance trends and recommend data-driven interventions.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
