Develop, implement and monitor a general program for Sewer Sump cleaning so that all sewer sumps are cleaned as per schedule. Research and implement new technology to optimize plant and equipment efficiency according to Best Practices and OHSA. Compile relevant statistics on plant and equipment breakdowns and submit reports to the Senior Manager: Technical Services on findings. Agree with the Senior Manager: Technical Services on an annual basis on the reduction of plant / equipment breakdowns in order to optimize performance of reservoirs and pumpstations. Implement and maintain preventative measures to contain and reduce overflows originating from sewer pump stations in order to comply with Environmental Regulations. Ensure that the minor plant equipment is kept in a good state of operations in order to achieve availability to end users. Manage, monitor and enforce safety requirements in the workplace according to OHSA by carrying out risk assessments and on-the-job assessments. Control expenditure by ensuring that spending is appropriate and necessary for the achievement of the section’s objectives and is within the approved budget for the section. Liaise with other departments in Johannesburg Water in order to ensure integrated activities and to obtain approval / agreement for actions taken.

Primary Purpose: Collect routine and non-routine water samples for analysis by the laboratory, conduct on site analyses, and inspect sample points as well as to comply with legislative and accreditation requirements in order to ensure reliability and accuracy of results generated by the Laboratory
Key Responsibilities: Plan the routes to be taken among Samplers according to the schedules to meet the targets of drinking water and wastewater monitoring programmes Undertake all routine water samples according to a schedule provided for the samples including drinking water, rivers, dams and wastewater effluent samples). Inspect the drinking water sample points (including water tankers) for any faults. Primary Purpose: To ensure compliance by Johannesburg Water and its appointed contractors in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and its associated regulations and more specifically the Constructions Regulations.
Key Responsibilities: Implement, maintain and audit the ISO 45001 system. Lead the risk assessment process at allocated operational sites. Identify procedures and documents required by the system.
