ANALYST: INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT– REF: AIE- JW348/2020
REMUNERATION: R308 868 BASIC SALARY PER MONTH

PURPOSE
Assist the Industrial Effluent Manager in the regulation of the discharge of industrial effluent and processing of industrial effluent charges.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and control activities of the industrial effluent control inspectorate. Plan appropriate work schedules such as sampling rosters. Prepare worksheets and labels to ensure continuity of sampling activities. Do random checks of inspectors’ vehicles to ensure the availability of safety equipment and sampling tools at all times. Check on inspectorate reports daily to ensure that forms are completed fully and correctly. Check six monthly sub-meter reading data returned by inspectors and check all captured data. Promote productivity by being aware of instances where performance is lacking and encourage individual improvement as required. Do inspection and then take samples from industrial premises. Visit sites to discuss the outcome of the analysis from the laboratory and the way forward. Arrange for completion of consent documents when required by telephone or email.
Draft and issue the required documentation when completed and checked. Visit premises where inspectorate cannot solve problems and when clients request a meeting. Inform industrialists with respect to effluent issues. Verify sampling points in consultation with company management by filling the necessary documents and sign. Clarify instructions/information with company management when tracing illegal discharges or pollution. Communicate policies and procedures to inspectors. Investigate complaints and provide feedback to the manager. Inform the City of Johannesburg concerning storm-water pollution incidents. Use Geographical Information System (GIS) to locate various areas for ease of traceability. Use Dbase system to create monthly outstanding inspection list and notice documents. Log, record field data and receive routine industrial effluent samples using (LIMS) laboratory Information Management System. Ensure results and reports for special samples are available within due dates. Maintain and revise client details six monthly and/or as required. Supervise all human resource activities related to this position.

Essential qualifications and experience:
• BSc Chemistry/Applied Chemistry (NQF 7) or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (NQF 6).
• 3 years chemical analysis experience in a laboratory preferably in a water analysis or environmental or industrial environment. Working knowledge of water related legislation.
