Job Description
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in partnership with Durban University of Technology (DUT) is embarking on an initiative to build a new generation of academics. Phase 9 of the Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) is called the New Generation of Academics Programme and is aimed at attracting people with relevant qualifications and experience to pursue a Doctoral qualification while they are developing as proficient academics at the University. Successful candidates will engage in comprehensive support programs that include a salary, mentorship, equipment, cost of tuition fees, etc.
Only South Africans who are 40 years or younger from the designated and underrepresented groups will be considered. The University is looking for aspirant academics in the following academic disciplines:
POST: NGAP LECTURER
Minimum Requirements:
- A Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- Undergraduate qualification specialization in Electronic Engineering, Analogue Electronics and Digital Electronics.
- The successful candidate will be required to pursue doctoral studies within three months of appointment.
Additional recommendations:
- Teaching or tutoring experience i n Electronic Engineering
- Competency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency i n English (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently
- Good interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills
- Experience in E-learning
Conditions of Employment:
In accepting an NGAP appointment, the incumbent will have to:
1. Commit to full participation in the 6-year New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)
- Commit to registering for Doctoral studies (as applicable) within 3 months of taking up the nGAP appointment. Please note that nGAP appointees who already hold a doctorate will be required to undertake a higher teaching/research load.
- Commit to work closely with the supervisor and mentor assigned to him/her and to adhere to the study plan and milestones developed with the supervisor and mentor.
- Commit to participate in the SSAU F Development Programme, which will involve participation in at least one short course/module per year focused on research or teaching development.
- Agree that s/he cannot accept any other funding from state sources that duplicates the purpose for which funding has already been allocated to him/her through the nGAP.
- Agree that s/he cannot accept any other funding for projects that conflict with obligations that arise from participating in the nGAP.
- Agree to inform the University and the Department of Higher Education and Training of any other funding that s/he has been offered before accepting such funding.
- Agree that should s/he leave the nGAP position before successfully completing the 6-year program, s/he will be obliged to reimburse the nGAP fund by repaying the University the following costs incurred up to the point of leaving.
- Registration and tuition fees for postgraduate studies, where applicable.
- Costs associated with the assignment of a mentor to support development.
- Costs incurred for his/her participation in the SSAU F-Development Programme.
- Costs of infrastructure and equipment provided to support his/her work in the nGAP.
- Any conference/ international mobility costs paid by the nGAP and,
- I0% of salary costs paid by the nGAP up to the point of leaving.
- Agree to participate in research, monitoring and evaluation activities focused on the nGAP, including participating in an exit interview upon leaving or completing the program.

Minimum Requirements:
Lecturer
- A completed Master’s degree in Photography or an appropriate associated field. (A PhD would be an advantage.)
- A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level, OR, 3 years’ experience in industry. (A portfolio is needed as evidence of industry work.)
Additional Recommendations:
- Comprehensive photographic studio experience is a pre-requisite.
- Be able to create updated, contemporary and innovative content at degree and/or honours level. (Content would include new media platforms in line with 4IR).
- Be able to teach Photographic Theory and Applied Photography at degree and/or honours level.
- A combination of analogue (b/w darkroom processes) and digital photography.
- Must register for doctoral study within three years of appointment.
- Evidence of research or creative output activities (industry commissions if from industry).
- Experience in teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning would be an advantage.
- Experience in teaching English to second-language students.
- Possess a working knowledge of post-production Photography software, such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
- Possess a working knowledge of DSLR video/multimedia and Adobe Premier Pro.
Summary of Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Register for a PhD within two years of appointment, if not in possession of a PhD.
- Lecture in the Photography Programme at degree and/or honours level.
- Set and mark tests, assignments and portfolios.
- Develop new content/curriculum for the degree and/or honours qualification(s).
- Engage in departmental administration duties.
- Develop materials specific for online learners.
- Participate in individual and/or programme research projects.
- Attend meetings prescribed by the Head of Department.
- Participate in DUT academic life and serve on at least one committee.
- Undertake appropriate duties as assigned by the Programme Co-ordinator/Head of Department.
- Conduct research and publish research outputs or produce creative research outputs.

Post: HR Business Analytics and Reporting Specialist (Ref: HR36)
Minimum Requirements:
- A postgraduate degree in Human Resources Management (NQF level 7) and Statistics/ Business Analytics or an equivalent qualification is required OR BSc/BA in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Management, or a related field
- 7-10 years’ experience in Human Resources field, specialising in a broad shared service environment, with a strong data analysis and reporting capabilities, of which 5 years should be in Human Resources Information Systems, Reporting and Data Analytics in a corporate sector within a shared services environment
- Exposure to S189 consultation processes, inhouse or CCMA facilitated.
- Deep technical hands-on expertise in data analytics, data visualization, business intelligence, and reporting Proficiency in Human Resources Systems
- Experience with HR data, HRMS/HRIS systems experience (SaaS and on-premise ERP)
- Broad experience with analytic toolsets with ability to conduct advanced analytics in POWER HEDA and other tools as required.
Summary of Duties:
- Develop strategies for effective data analysis and reporting.
- Design and implement dashboards that present data in a meaningful and actionable framework for leadership.

- Build systems to transform raw data into actionable business insights.

- Identify develop the key HR metrics and provide reports on key HR metrics in accordance with DUT’s reporting requirements.
- Improve upon current reporting standards by providing new functionality including canned reports, dashboards, predictive analysis, emailed reports, and mobile reporting capability.
