Position Purpose
• Provide Strategic leadership and guidance in the development of integrated engineering, maintenance and operations technology strategy that is aligned with the overall capital investment and business growth strategy of Transnet and TPT.
• Ensure establishment of an integrated, planned and coordinated approach to engineering, maintenance and Technology management to enable operations to achieve both immediate and long-term business targets and objectives.
• Lead and guide the definition of future technology strategic and business requirements.
• Manage and ensure compliance to relevant policies, legislation and regulatory requirements in conducting business.




​Position Outputs

• Provide strategic leadership and guidance in ensuring sound equipment and infrastructure maintenance planning and execution.
• Ensure that TPT has a sound technical model for effective and efficient management of the technical disciplines in Transnet Port Terminals including Mechanical, Electrical, as well as Control & Instrumentation.
• Ensure the integrity of all terminal equipment, by determining and implementing sound operating and maintenance practices, and to ensure technically sound and legally compliant assets that conform to national and international quality and safety standards.
• Direct and lead turn-key management of large-scale cross-functional strategic business projects
• Work with the Capital Projects team to plan capital projects and future operations technology strategic planning, implementation and systems management.
• Manage suppliers, service providers and contracts in terms of their performance against contracts and Service level Agreements.
• Lead and guide the definition of future technology strategy requirements.
• Plan and Execute engineering development and execution programmes and related technology.
• Oversee Asset Life Cycle processes and ensure long-term asset health (in terms of design life of assets).
• Ensure sound investment, project, business analysis and Risk Management.
• Ensure projects are managed and delivered in accordance with set standards, time, quality and budget requirements.
• Ensure that financial allocation, expenditure and deliverables are aligned to TPT strategic business objectives and the information contained in the Corporate Plan.
• Identify possible financial pre- and post-investment and other risks.
• Recommend appropriate financial models or solutions to the investment.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation actions and initiatives and monitor operations to ensure risks are avoided or minimised.
• Monitor compliance to relevant statutory, regulatory and applicable governance requirements.
• Lead, manage and develop a team of professionals, and coach and mentor staff as required.

Qualifications and Experience
• B-dgree is required, i.e. BSc / B-Engineering or equivalent in related field
• Registration as Professional Engineer is a requirement
• Post graduate degree in Business Management or Finance is an advantage
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in Engineering within the private or public sector, and of which at least 7 years at a senior / executive managerial level
• In-depth knowledge of engineering operations management
• Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19
• Driver’s license code 8
• Travel as required by the business
