System Controller: MOAS Ref: 020
TASK Grade 11
Reporting to – Head of Shift: System Control
Purpose
Oversee the various systems and test, maintain and monitor the control systems and ensure consistent results and operations of the system within specified tolerances. Report on any system related discrepancies and highlight any inconsistencies that may have hindered performance on a given shift
Key responsibilities
• Protecting and safeguarding people and plant by adhering to System Operating Regulations
• Ensure compliance with standard operating and safety procedures including Safety & Risk Management ; outage management and all SHEQ requirements
• Ensure that SABS; ISO and NOSA standards are adhered to at all times
• Give clear, accurate and precise operating instructions to field staff in accordance with ORHVS and City Power’s Standards and procedures
• Monitor and manage planned and unplanned network events
• Conduct root cause failure analysis for all significant downtime occurrences and escalate network problems to relevant technical support functions
• Establish priorities for electrical system preventative maintenance, repair and replacement
• Manage systems to track and maintain adequate spare parts inventories
• Accurately log system events electronically, capturing times and reasons for all outages
• Participating and making positive contributions during incident investigations
• Identifying quality and performance gaps in the network and develop and implement quality improvement plans
• Performing real-time power system control and network optimisation through issuing and confirming operating instructions given to operators and then receiving feedback on execution of instructions
Monitoring and operating remote equipment via SCADA and evaluate the success and impact of remote operations on the network and/or customers
Ensuring network stability and security, safe loading of the network and ultimately continuity of supply
Advise and coach staff when required
Set and manage KPI’s for direct reports in order to achieve all operational objectives

Minimum qualifications
• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or SAQA equivalent.
• N6 Electrical Engineering plus Trade Test
• Code 08 drivers’ license
Related Minimum Experience
• 3 years’ experience in HV/ MV and LV distribution and operating regulation
• Analytical Skill
• Communication skill
• Fault management process knowledge
