METRO POLICE OFFICER (MPO) 
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety 
BRANCH: Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) 
DESIGNATION: Metro Police Officer (MPO) 
REMUNERATION: R24 119,71 pm (basic salary, excluding benefits) 
LOCATION: Martindale (Various Regions) 
 
Minimum Requirements: 
• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4); 
• Metropolitan Police Officer Diploma; 
• 1- 2 years’ experience; 
• Minimum of a Code 8/B Driver’s License; and 
• No criminal record. 
 
Primary Function:
Undertake the general maintenance of Law and Order in terms of powers conferred upon a police official by the South African Police Services Amendment Act and in particular the prevention of crime in terms of the powers conferred upon a Metro Police Official by the Criminal Procedure Act as well as other legislation (i.e. National Road and Transportation Act, Council By-Laws, etc.) and enhance the Joburg Ward Based Policing Program with external stakeholders. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Perform activities by ensuring the safe and free flow of traffic on public roads as well as enforcement; 
• Perform specific activities, monitoring local area and act on situations/behavior deemed to be inappropriate or non-conforming to the law; 
• Performs crime prevention activities, monitoring any act deemed to be inappropriate/non-conforming to the law. 
 
Leading Competencies: 
• Ability to work independently or in a team and take initiative where necessary to achieve necessary outcomes; 
• Computer literacy including MS Office Applications; 
• High level of confidentiality and organisational skills; 
• Time Management, under pressure, and ability to prioritise.

Minimum Requirements: 
• Grade 12 plus a degree/NQF level 7 in Public Administration and/or Business Management or related field; 
• 10 years of relevant experience in a leadership/managerial capacity in a similar environment; 
• Basic Training Qualification; 
• No criminal record. 
 
Primary Function:
Manage, lead, and provide strategic support and general administrative functions to the Office of the Public Safety HoD and monitor all contracts, agreements, and SLAs with third parties, through administration, monitoring, management of, and reporting on performance, in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures for Public Safety Department as a whole. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Provide strategic support to the Department and ensure appropriate strategies, business plans, policies, and procedures are developed, communicated to the relevant stakeholders, and implemented so that strategic imperatives of the municipality are met; 
• Minimise and/or eliminate liability by managing the Department’s Contract and Project risk; 
• Manage and provide support to the management of Public Safety contracts; 
• Plan, organize, coordinate staff, and direct the activities of the Fleet Services Unit within JMPD; 
• Oversee armoury operations and ensure a well-governed environment; 
• Plan, organize, coordinate staff, and direct the activities of the JMPD Sports and Drill Squad Unit; 
• Lead the provisions of the Security Services for the City’s Assets, Property, and its human resources; 
• Maximise the productivity of Logistics by optimizing the effectiveness of its employees in order to enable the achievement of objectives of the Department; 
• Expenditure in accordance with the legislative framework as well as the City’s policies and procedures. 
 
Leading Competencies: 
• Computer literacy including MS Office Applications; 
• Numerical and accounting skills and Accountability; 
• High level of confidentiality and organisational skills; 
• Time Management, working independently, under pressure, and ability to prioritise; 
• Good negotiation, and report writing skills.
