Job Description
This position is suited to a dedicated conservationist who would like to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of biodiversity through support to the Conservation Off Reserve section with terrestrial protected area management, protected area expansion, environmental compliance and enforcement and environmental awareness in the Garden Route Landscape Unit.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in Protected Area Expansion initiatives and support to Conservancies
  • Compilation of databases, organizing of filing, record keeping, data analysis and information gathering
  • Assist with Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Off Reserves in the Landscape
  • Assist with conducting investigations/joint operations with regard to non-compliance with legislation.
  • Conduct mandatory inspections & submit reports for fauna and flora permit applications received
  • Review and evaluate management plans and risk assessments
  • Provide public with technical advice in promotion of biodiversity conservation, environmental education & awareness and liaise with permit applicants with instructions/guidance on permit application procedures/requirements.
  • Guidance and assistance with sick/injured wildlife interventions.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma in Nature Conservation.
  • At least one to three years of proven relevant experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills in at least two languages spoken in the rural areas of the Western Cape.
  • Advanced computer literacy Microsoft Office including MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • No criminal record.
  • High level of physical fitness to perform duties.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours.

Job Description
This is an Expanded Public Works Programme implemented by CapeNature in accordance with applicable Ministerial Determination and related guidelines.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure all EPWP Project information are captured on the National EPWP Reporting System within the reporting period
  • Administer all EPWP MIS reports, timesheets received from Projects
  • Critically examine all information submitted on Project MIS reports and timesheets
  • Capture all MIS report information, work opportunities, person days worked etc. on the National EPWP RS
  • Create reports – from information received on monthly basis – vulnerability stats, expenditure, etc.
  • General administration & correspondence duties with regard to job creation projects
  • Assist projects in resolving data related queries
  • Coordinate, attend and support all project visits
  • Draft and submit reports to EPWP Compliance and Reporting Unit
  • Assist with related research
  • Assist with other related administrative duties when required
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Ability to write and communicate in any two of the Western Cape official languages
  • Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel
  • Experience in Office Administration
  • Basic knowledge of Finance transactions
  • Working knowledge of the EPWP Reporting System (V1 or V2)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • No criminal record
