The ARC-Central Office (ARC-CO) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Hatfield, Pretoria:
SENIOR MANAGER: MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
Key Performance Areas:
• Develop and execute ARC’s marketing and communication strategy and manage the execution of the strategy to create compelling marketing and communications plans,
• Build and manage a team of internal and external communication and marketing resources,
• Work closely with the ARC Executive at central office and research campuses to build a culture of effective communication within the organisation,
• Design and implement an effective stakeholder communication programme,
• Develop professionally written content and visual collateral to support ARC communication,
• Ensure that ARC research, policy, and results are effectively disseminated through the media and other outlets, including management of an ARC press office,
• Develop and manage the ARC’s social media programme and digital assets, including the ARC website,
• Coordinate ARC participation in conferences, exhibitions, and trade shows,
• Develop and execute a human capital strategy for the marketing and communication portfolio,
• Develop, manage and monitor the ARC’s marketing and communication budget,
• Design and implement an effective internal communication programme – working closely with the ARC’s Human Resources team,
• Lead the development and positioning of the ARC brand and corporate identity and its communication to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
• Post-graduate qualification in Marketing, Public Relations, and/or Communications,
• At least ten (10) years' proven senior management experience in a related marketing & communications function,
• Relevant Professional body membership, PRISA, CIM, SAMRA, SGBM.
• Experience in developing compelling marketing strategies and executing them. Working in complex and demanding environments and managing time-sensitive initiatives simultaneously under pressure and tight deadlines,
• A good understanding of how Marketing and Communications strategies help businesses achieve objectives and keep abreast of trends.
• Ability to influence and build collaborative relationships with challenging views and perspectives with the ARC stakeholders,
• Experience working with external and internal agencies/resources,
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders,
• Confidence and ability in public speaking and presentations,
• Knowledge or experience in a science, research and/or agriculture environment will be an added advantage,
• Proven management ability and experience in building and managing a team,
• Proven ability and experience managing external contractors,
• Knowledge and experience of all communication functions including stakeholder engagement, media relations, events, social media, publications, marketing, and website management
• Developing media content and campaigns and working effectively with journalists,
• Conceptualising and producing publications with writers, editors, and designers,
• Experience working with websites, including content development, and working with web technical people,
• Proven experience working with social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube,

SENIOR RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Key Performance Areas:
• Manage the Research Farm to ensure that research projects are run according to researcher’s requirements and generate income from commercial blocks initiatives.

RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: IN VITRO GENEBANK
Key Performance Areas:
• Conserve and maintain accessions in the ARC-VIMP National Public Goods In Vitro Genebank collection (which includes vegetatively propagated roots and tuber crops, indigenous flower bulbs, industrial and medicinal crop species) using plant tissue culture methods.
• In vitro establishment and multiplication of food and non-food crops for clients and Researchers within and external to ARC-VIMP
• Assist the Genetic Resources Manager (GRM) in managing the routine operations of the genebank
• Keep accurate records of daily operations to ensure traceability is maintained
• Play active role in mitigating risks emanating from handling of genetic material in vitro
• Capturing of procedural data on a relevant system in line with quality assurance measures
• Understand aspects relevant to the in vitro lab certification systems in line with standard operating procedures and Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ensure all team members are correctly following SOPs
• Participate in technical projects in compliance with set standards, clients’ needs/ specification and on time delivery
• Conduct research on development of micro propagation protocols for different crop species and other areas
• Assist GRM with theoretical and practical training of laboratory personnel and students (when required)
• Compile and submit monthly to line manager and provide collection information to GRM for quarterly report
• Assist GRM with completion of Performance & Development Agreements (PDAs) and Evaluations (PDEs) for all subordinates

Requirements:
