The ARC- Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following position at Kroondal, Rustenburg. 
 
FARM MANAGER FACILITIES 
 
Key Performance Area: 
  • Coordinating and controlling farming activities on the research farm. 
  • Planning, establishment, and management of orchards including irrigation systems and drawing up of orchard maps. 
  • Managing research plots as directed by the researchers. 
  • Managing the budget of the farm division. 
  • Maintenance of farm Assets infrastructure. 
  • Attending industry and stakeholders meeting where applicable. 
  • Training of identified trainees; assist with the organising of events to be held on the farm. 
  • Accountability for the Occupational Health and Safety aspects on the farm as well as training of farm staff on personal safety and other health aspects. 
  • Controlling all the assets and stocks of the farm division. 
  • Responsible for harvesting and marketing of farm produce, Labour management, capital purchases for the farm and writing of various farm reports. 
  • Complies with SHE/OHS policies and procedures. 
 
Technical competencies and attributes required:

Requirements: 
  • National Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or equivalent qualification. 
  • At least seven (7) years’ experience in relevant field. 
  • Excellent interpersonal relations, excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to solve problems, organise and work without direct supervision. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office. 
  • Experience in coordinating and liaising with stakeholders and clients. 
  • Knowledge of the Global gap accreditation scheme. 
  • Be able to adapt to different working conditions and willing to work long hours in the sun or adverse weather conditions. 
  • Occupational Health and Safety experience will be an added advantage.

The ARC-Grain Crops (ARC-GC) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Potchefstroom. 
 
RESEARCH ASSISTANT: AGRONOMY (RE-ADVERT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Performs routine activities under supervision, assists in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated HR resources if applicable. 
  • Adheres to financial administrative control. 
  • Adheres to work plans as prescribed by the line manager. 
  • Utilises equipment and materials. 
  • Provides research support, diagnostics, and other services. 
  • Collects data under supervision and provides verbal feedback on work activities to supervisors. 
  • Adheres and ensures compliance to quality standards. 
  • Assists with basic activities related to research services. 
  • Is aware of Intellectual Property opportunities. 
  • Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures. 
 
Requirements: 
  • Grade 12 with 3 years’ relevant experience or grade 10 plus 8 years’ relevant experience or 20 years relevant experience. 
  • Experience working in field trials in Plant Breeding or Crop Production will be an added advantage. 
  • A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage. 
  • Computer literacy will be an added advantage. 
 
 
 
RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSISTANT AGRONOMY VAALHARTS X 2 (RE-ADVERT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Performs routine activities under supervision. 
  • Adheres to instructions from supervisor. 
  • Utilises tools and materials, under supervision. 
  • Assists in research support, under supervision. 
  • Provide verbal feedback on work activities to supervisors.

  • Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities.

Requirements:
  • Grade 10- or two-years relevant experience. 
  • Experience working in field trials will be an added advantage.

The ARC-Natural Resources and Engineering (ARC-NRE) seeks to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Arcadia, Pretoria & Stellenbosch:
 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: AGROMETEOROLOGY x 4 (FOUR YEARS & SIX MONTHS: FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Maintenance and calibration of allocated weather stations. 
  • Adherence to standard operating procedure of the ARC weather station network. 
  • Extensive field work that requires a lot of travelling and willingness to work overtime. 
  • Programming of dataloggers. 
  • Knowledge of climate data capturing and report writing. 
  • Writing project reports (biweekly status report). 
  • Client (e.g. farmers and researchers) engagement. 
  • Preparation of yearly budgets for an allocated region. 
  • Accurate and diligent administration. 
 
Requirements: 
  • National Diploma or BSc qualification in Agrometeorology/Meteorology/Atmospheric Science. 
  • 3 years’ applicable experience. 
  • Acumen for technical skills (mechanical and electrical). 
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office Suite. 
  • Proficiency in any programming language would be an added advantage.

Requirements: 
  • Senior Certificate / Matric with pass in mathematics. 
  • Minimum of 1 year’s relevant climate project experience. 
  • Acumen for technical skills (mechanical and electrical). 
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite. 
  • Good analytical, report writing and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to take initiative. 
  • A valid driver’s licence (code 08/EB) would be an added advantage.

• Knowledge of Soil/Crop Science principles. 
• Ability to work thoroughly, consistently and reliably.

• Accurate and diligent administration. 
 
Requirements: 
• Applicants should be highly motivated graduates with a strong academic background (e.g. class Honours and Masters) in GIS, Remote Sensing, Data Analysis, Statistics, Physics, or similar quantitative fields. 
• Programming experience with R or a similar language (or willingness to learn) would be an added advantage. 
• Valid driver’s licence (code 08/EB).
