FIELD RANGER
A challenging vacancy currently exists for a Field Ranger at Addo Elephant National Park (Darlington Dam Section). The successful incumbent will report to the Field Ranger Sergeant.

Requirements
- A minimum Certificate of Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent NQF Level 4 is required.
- NQF 2 National Certificate in Conservation Guardianship is required.
- On the job training following the successful completion of Basic Field Ranger Training is required.
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation is desirable.
- Certificate in Resource Guardianship (NQF level 5) or equivalent is desirable.
- EMI Grade 5 designation (compulsory) or must qualify in stipulated period.
- One -Two years of relevant experience as Armed Environmental Monitor, Field Guard or within Conservation is needed.
- Working knowledge of relevant Conservation Legislation.
- Valid code 8 driver’s license is required.
- SAPS criminal record to be attached if available.
- Criminal checks will be done on successful candidate
- Must be computer literate.
- Basic technical skills.
- NQF level 4 Handle and Use a Self-Loading Rifle Firearm Proficiency is required; certificate should be provided. (NB: valid SAPS Competency Certificate; Original Training Competency Certificate for Business Unit Standards, Statement of results indicating the unit standards for Law and Business Purpose Unit Standards.)
- Must at least be 60 % physically fit and be prepared to undergo a fitness test before the interview.
- Must be willing to undergo a medical exam.
Responsibilities
- Law Enforcement that will include participating in regular patrols by foot in areas that are inaccessible by vehicle and in difficult, mountainous terrain.
- Anti-poaching operations throughout Addo Elephant National Park that will require the applicant to work flexi-time, night shift and overtime.
- Regular clandestine, camping deployments and observation posts in support of anti-poaching operations in Addo Elephant National Park.
- Assist in the control, capture handling and transportation of animals.
- Follow correct procedures for basic documenting and reporting on law enforcement activities.
- Assistance with natural resources management that includes the implementation of invasive plant, alien biota and unnatural soil erosion and fire management.
- Gather information for the implementation of management plans through using electronic devices.
- Maintain records and prepare reports of work activities.
- Capturing of field DATA electronically including situational reports.
- Assistance with the management of the fauna that includes water provision, the control, game capture and transportation of animals.
- Assist with the control of visitor’s behaviour and access.
- Assist with the control of EPWP contractors’ movement within the park.
- Fence patrols and fence maintenance.
- General maintenance of conservation infrastructure such as generators, pumps, storerooms and including terrain near visitor facilities.
- Assist with maintenance and management of all assets.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B3 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.

Responsibilities
- Cleaning in and around chalets (changing bed linen, sweeping and mopping floors or vacuuming, polish furniture, empty trash containers.
- Cleaning public areas.
- Reporting abnormalities to the supervisor.
- Control inventory items and ensure that the appropriate amounts of inventory items are present in chalets.
- Report maintenance defaults into maintenance register.
- Help in laundry when necessary.
- Delivers high-quality services; is committed to continuous improvement.
