MANAGER: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND COMMERCIALISATION

The mandate of the position is to assist the Head: DSTI Energy Secretariat to manage the commercialisation of Intellectual Properties emanating from the implementation of the various alternative energy research, development, and innovation initiatives on behalf of the Department of Science Technology and Innovation (DSTI), and the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI).

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract - 5 years

 Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 4 years Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.
• A PhD degree in Science or Engineering will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years in Research or Engineering-related working experience in the Energy sector and / or IP commercialisation environment.
• A 7 years or more experience in the latter sector will be an added advantage.

In addition, the successful candidate must have the following qualities:

Job Knowledge Required

• Knowledge of Government Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) systems, in particular the National System of Innovation.
• Knowledge of the 2019 White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI)
• Knowledge of the DSTI’s science technology and innovation decadal plan 202022-2032
• Knowledge of the South African Hydrogen Society Roadman and Green Hydrogen
• Commercialisation Strategy.
• Knowledge of the South African Renewable Energy Masterplan.
• Knowledge of the Green transport Strategy.
• Knowledge of the Critical Minerals and Metals Strategy for South Africa
• Understanding of South Africa’s Just energy Transition
• Good understanding of the corporate governance systems, policy and strategy analysis
• development and implementation.
• Knowledge of the relevant policies and legislations, such as the Intellectual Property Rights from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act, National Development Plan and the Public Finance Management Act.
•  In-depth understanding of the South African energy system; and global energy system.
• A well-developed understanding and knowledge about hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, clean coal technologies, battery energy storage systems as well as renewable energy technologies.
