Job Description

CapeNature seeks to appoint an Infrastructure Specialist to assist the existing team to plan, design, facilitate and implement by applying technical knowledge and skills through effective project management.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Project Planning & Implementation

  • Plan, coordinate and implement infrastructure projects in line with approved business plans.
  • Develop and manage project schedules to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate project activities and facilitate meetings with key stakeholders.

Technical Design & Quality Assurance

  • Develop or oversee technical designs, specifications and construction documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, municipal requirements and project specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections and implement quality assurance measures throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Monitoring, Reporting & Contract Administration

  • Monitor project progress and maintain accurate project documentation.

Financial, Procurement & Cost Management

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and financial regulations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or Degree in the Construction built Environment or a relevant tertiary qualification
  • A Project Management qualification would be advantageous

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a construction environment working with infrastructure projects (building, civil, or structural)
  • At least 2 years of experience in project management, budgeting, procurement and report writing
  • In-depth understanding of technical drawings, construction and detailing
  • Ability to draft technical specifications
  • A valid Code B driver’s license
  • No Criminal record

Job Description

As the Internal Control Analyst, you will form part of the Internal Control Unit.  Your role will focus on executing control activities, monitoring controls, performing investigations and monitoring compliance, all in the effort to ensure the control environment is efficient and effective and that proper governance practices are implemented and practiced. This is a support role to the Team Leader: Internal Controls and will be key in ensuring the provision of decision-making information to Senior Management, Executive Management, Board and key external stakeholders. You will be required to travel and to interact with all directorates, components and landscapes within the entity.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Control Activities

  • Lead the process of understanding and analyzing business processes in order to design detective and preventative controls.
  • Support, review and advise functional areas on standard operating procedures that have been drafted by business units.
  • Analyse and advise functional areas on any complex matters that require resolving, as and when required.

Monitoring Activities

  • Lead the process of providing assurance and non-assurance services on finance related matters.

Job Description

CapeNature seeks to appoint a dedicated conservationist who will contribute meaningfully to the conservation of biodiversity through protected area management.  The successful candidate will support terrestrial conservation efforts in line with CapeNature’s integrated catchment management approach. Key responsibilities include compliance monitoring and law enforcement, eco-tourism, environmental education, stakeholder engagement, and contributing to integrated catchment management to help achieve the vision and goals of the Protected Area.

The position will report to the Conservation Officer on Reserve, Gamkaberg Nature Reserve

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enhance biodiversity resilience through targeted ecosystem conservation, restoration initiatives and effective protected area management.

  • Ecological tasks: Carry out ecological projects as per the Protected Area Ecological Matrix and any other biodiversity conservation related tasks as required for the effective management of the Protected Area.
  • Alien invasive species management: Carry out alien invasive species management in the Protected Area.
  • Heritage tasks: Carry out identified functions related to historical, cultural, archaeological and palaeontological asset management in the Protected Area.

Assist with protected area conservation in ways that address biodiversity loss in key biodiversity areas.

  • Planning: Take part in and contribute to the planning processes for the Protected Area.
  • Quality control: Undertake quality control of integrated annual operations plan projects and/or other projects in field.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports and carry out reporting on activities as required.
  • Maintenance: Carry out infrastructure, vehicle, vessel and equipment maintenance functions as required for the Protected Area.
  • Partnerships and collaborative activities: Perform functions as required for collaborative activities throughout the Landscape (MOA/U support and/or compliance).

  • Job creation: Support the implementation of targeted biodiversity economic activities to promote job creation, work opportunities, and livelihood support.

  • Supervision: Undertake supervision of Conservation Assistants, contract staff, students and volunteers.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The positions will report to the Senior Manager Marine and Coasts Operations based at Walker Bay

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enhance biodiversity resilience through targeted ecosystem conservation, restoration initiatives and effective protected area management.

  • Ecological tasks: Carry out ecological projects as per the Marine Protected Area Ecological Matrix and any other biodiversity conservation related tasks as required for the effective management of Marine Protected Areas and Estuaries.
  • Alien invasive species management: Carry out alien invasive species management in the dune systems adjacent to Protected Areas.
  • Heritage tasks: Carry out identified functions related to historical, cultural, archaeological and palaeontological asset management in the Marine Protected Areas.

Assist with protected area conservation in ways that address biodiversity loss in key biodiversity areas.

  • Planning: Take part in and contribute to the operational planning processes for the Marine Protected Areas and Estuaries.
  • Quality control: Undertake quality control of integrated annual operations plan projects and/or other projects in field.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports and carry out reporting on activities as required for MOA.
  • Maintenance: Carry out minor infrastructure, vehicle, vessel and equipment maintenance functions as required for the Marine Protected Area.

  • Job creation: Support the implementation of targeted biodiversity economic activities to promote job creation, work opportunities, and livelihood support. This will include inspection of legal fishers.
  • Access: Manage access to Marine Protected Areas and estuaries for recreational, educational, training, research, traditional, cultural and spiritual purposes; manage volunteers and citizen scientists.
  • Eco-tourism and visitor liaison: Support eco-tourism and visitor liaison activities as and when required for the Marine Protected Area. This may include carrying out inspections on legal operators.

Contribute to conservation action to advocate for a nature positive future through behavioural change and voluntary compliance.

  • Environmental awareness: Carry out environmental awareness activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12
  • At least 5 years’ experience with an emphasis on protected areas and or estuary, coastal and the marine environment.
  • A valid driver’s license with at least three years’ driving experience.
  • Skippers Category C or higher with 5 years’ experience (Marine Field Ranger post)
  • FCO, EMI, Peace Officer qualification
  • A working knowledge of joint enforcement operations, specifically the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act and the Marine Living Resources Act.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, GIS).
  • Knowledge and experience in ecological monitoring and law enforcement.
  • Knowledge in firefighting and incident response.
  • Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • No criminal record.

  • Physical ability to perform Field Ranger duties, including the ability to swim and go to sea on a patrol vessel.
