Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

BSc, B Tech, National Diploma (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology)

Preferred: BSc Honours, MSc (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology)


Job Experience

1 years’ experience in the relevant scientific field

Preferred: 2-4 years’ experience in relevant scientific field or management context

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES:

Finance

  • Give input to the formulation of the operational budget and monitor and track applicable spending.
  • Assist in managing and monitoring financial obligations that clients/projects have to TIA (e.g., service fees).


Stakeholder Relationships

  • Assist relevant Scientist in ensuring that the Platform and section in which the candidate is assigned, is compliant with the relevant accreditation prescripts and procedures.
  • Support the Platform to deliver required services to its stakeholder on brief, on time and with the requisite levels of quality.
  • Respond in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholder queries.
  • Maintain professional engagements and continuously exceed expectations.


Internal Processes

  • Plan, set up and undertake experiments
  • Record experimental results and analyse them accordingly.
  • Review experimental results ensuring effective analysis of data and provide technical opinion (to the relevant Research Scientist)
  • Provide support in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and new tests methods and their validation
  • Provide input into the development of research protocols and SOP for the laboratory
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries and reviews of the reports
  • Assist in the collation and review of new technical processes and procedures
  • Source approved equipment and consumables and track stock levels.
  • Provide support with experimental set-up, preparation of reagents and sterile consumables
  • Perform quality control on laboratory equipments to ensure that they're operational
  • Ensure the cleanliness and general housekeeping of the laboratory.
  • Perform limited trouble shooting of the instruments
  • Write motivations as required to execute Platform activities in line with TIA processes, SCM, Legal etc, and to ensure compliance with approved industry norms
  • Provide general administrative support to the Platform


Learning and Growth

  • Assist in ensuring continued compliance with Legislation, e.g. PFMA and National Treasury Guidelines;
  • Assist in the process leading to Bioprocessing Platform complying with different statutory requirements i.e. SANAS.

Job Purpose

To lead and operationalize the TIA 2.0 Strategic Roadmap (2025–2035) through the establishment and management of a high-impact Project Management Office that ensures disciplined execution, effective change management and sustained organisational realignment across the Consolidate, Grow and Scale phases of the TIA 2.0 Corporate Strategy. The role serves as the custodian of organisational transformation, ensuring alignment between strategy, operations, people, processes, technology, governance and performance.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Requirements

  • A Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration, Public Administration, Strategy, Engineering, Economics or a related field.
  • Certification: Change Management certification (e.g., Prosci).

Project Management Institute PMP or AXELOS PRINCE2 Practitioner or

  • An MBA or equivalent, with formal certification in Strategic Change Management will be an added advantage.
  • 10 -15 years’ senior experience leading complex, multi-year organisational change or strategic transformation programmes.
  • Minimum 5 years at Executive or Executive Manager level.
  • Experience reporting to Boards and Executive Committees
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or leading an enterprise Project Management Office for a large public sector or innovation-driven organisation.
  • Knowledge in Public sector governance, accountability and reporting requirements;
  • National System of Innovation and innovation policy environment;
  • Large-scale organisational transformation and restructuring;
  • Funding and revenue model design in public or quasi-public entities

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Perspective

  • Ensure optimal allocation and utilisation of resources across all TIA 2.0 strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor programme and project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Support the redesign of funding and revenue models through disciplined programme oversight.

Stakeholder Management

  • Lead structured engagement with Executive Committee, Board Committees and shareholder representatives on TIA 2.0 progress.
  • Drive a comprehensive change management and communication programme to secure organisational buy-in.
  • Manage relationships with key NSI partners and implementation stakeholders affected by organisational realignment.

Internal Processes

  • Establish and maintain PMO governance frameworks, stage-gate controls and decision-making protocols.
  • Oversee integrated planning, risk management, dependency tracking and benefits realisation across all TIA 2.0 initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain a performance dashboard aligned to Roadmap milestones and KPIs.

  • Build internal Project Management Office, change management and execution capability through mentoring, coaching and skills transfer.
  • Embed a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and performance discipline.
  • Capture and institutionalise lessons learned and emerging best practices.
