SOUTH AFRICAN HEALTH PRODUCTS REGULATORY AUTHORITY (SAHPRA)
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR MEMBERS TO SERVE ON THE CEO TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEES
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) hereby invite nominations for candidates to serve as CEO Technical Advisory Committee members.
SAHPRA is a Schedule 3A Public Entity established in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 1965 (Act No. 101 of 1965) to oversee the regulation of medicines, medical devices, and in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) intended for human and animal use; the licensing of manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of medicines, medical devices and IVDs; and the conduct of clinical trials.
REQUIREMENTS
The Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) are established in terms of Section 3(9) of the Medicines Act, as amended to investigate, and report to the Authority on any matter within its scope in terms of the Act. The CEO TAC is a team of external technical experts with adequate experience to provide advice on various technical and regulatory matters. Nominations are required in the following disciplines:
BIO/2026
Biological Medicines Committee: Four (4) members
Relevant qualifications
An appropriate professional degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, or an equivalent biomedical science discipline, with relevant postgraduate training or demonstrated expertise in biological medicines. A postgraduate qualification, including at doctoral level, in one or more of the following or closely related disciplines: Clinical Pharmacology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases/Virology, Immunology, Biomanufacturing/Bioprocessing, or biomedical research relevant to biological medicines, including vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, biosimilars, cell and gene therapies, and other advanced therapy medicinal products.
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of research, publication, and/or regulatory experience in the evaluation, development, or oversight of biological medicines, and the ability to critically review technical and scientific dossiers within a committee setting.
CMs/2026
Complementary Medicines Committee: Three (3) members
Relevant Qualifications: Post graduate qualifications for Traditional Chinese, Unani-Tibb and Ayurvedic Medicine. Candidates should have knowledge and experience in evaluation, development, production and research background in the fields. Regulatory experience will be an added advantage
P&A/2026
Pharmaceutical and Analytical Committee: one (1) member
Relevant Qualifications: Appropriate degree in medicine/clinical pharmacy. Post-graduate qualification including doctoral level in pharmaceutics (Drug delivery systems and dosage).
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of research, publication, and/or regulatory experience in the evaluation, development, or oversight of small molecules, and the ability to critically review/interpret/advise on quality aspects (CMC) of medicine dossiers.
All applicants must be domiciled in South Africa.
Registration with the statutory regulatory board/council relating to his/her profession where applicable is recommended.
Applicant must be in good standing with the regulatory board/ council with which he/ she is registered where applicable.
Exclusions:
No person shall be eligible for appointment as an Expert for the Technical advisory Committee, if: -
ü he or she is conflicted in terms of SAHPRA Policy on Management of Conflict of Interest (GOV02).
ü he or she is disqualified under the Relevant Act applicable to his or her profession from practising as such.
ü he or she has been found guilty of improper or disgraceful conduct at an inquiry held under ambit of the relevant Act.
ü he or she is a patient as defined in section 1 of the Mental Health Care Act, 2002 (Act No. 17 of 2002).
ü he or she has been convicted of an offence in respect whereof he or she was sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine or in the case of fraud.
ü he or she does not meet the minimum requirements.
ü he or she is not resident in South Africa
TERM OF OFFICE
The term of office for Committee members will end on 30 November 2028 with the possibility to be appointed for a further term(s).
