Department of Human Kinetics and Ergonomics


The Department of Human Kinetics and Ergonomics invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

 

Main Objectives

To provide research support to the Principal Investigator at the Department of Human Kinetics and Ergonomics at Rhodes University research team working on this project. The Project Coordinator will help to coordinate the research study at Rhodes University by ensuring that study procedures are followed and will supervise the preparation of data collection procedures, participant recruitment, data collection and monitoring, staffing, field monitoring, scheduling , grant reporting and activities related to the project. The Project Coordinator will assist with ethics applications, as well as grant and ethics reports. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supervising and managing drivers, community liaison, and fieldworkers


The Requirements

B Degree (NQF level 7) plus approximately 3 years relevant experience where such experience includes:

  • Previous experience in working with word-processing, e-mail and the internet.
  • Previous experience writing reports.
  • Previous general administrative experience within a computerised environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence - useful but not really necessary if they can get themselves around.
  • Two years’ experience coordinating or managing research studies is an advantage.
  • Financial administration and meeting minute-taking experience.

Job Description

Internship Counselling Psychologist - 2027 (Rhodes University Student Counselling Centre)

Division of Student Services and Development


The Division of Student Services and Development invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 


Responsibilities

The Intern psychologist will be responsible for providing comprehensive counselling and psychological support to students.

The successful candidate will participate in the following psychological services offered at the Counselling Centre

  • Psychotherapy - of students which may include Individual psychotherapy mostly on a short-term basis
  • Couple therapy
  • Group therapy, particularly in response to specific needs of students.
  • Family interventions: in support of students
  • HIV pre- and post-test counselling for students and staff
  • Crisis intervention (As part of a team, this individual would be expected to be available to assist at certain times).

ASSESSMENT of primarily students, which may include:  

  • Psychological assessment
  • Career assessments

PSYCHO-EDUCATION:

Under the guidance of senior psychologists in the Centre:

  • Development and facilitation of training courses for staff and students on campus (under the guidance of a Senior Psychologist)
  • Development and distribution of information materials
  • Promotion of health and well-being of students

 

Minimum Requirements

  • For the Intern Psychologist position the job incumbent must currently be studying in their first year of a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology at an accredited university. 
  • Registration as a Student Psychologist with HPCSA

 

Required competencies

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of adolescent/early adulthood development
  • Genuine interest in working with students
  • Strong evidence based counselling and psychotherapeutic skills
  • Ethical and professional orientation at all times
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills, able to manage their time efficiently
  • Sound Computer literacy: able to work with a word processor, spreadsheets, use the internet
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to develop a quick rapport with individuals and be perceived as trustworthy
  • Sound communication (verbal and written) skills in English. An ability to speak isiXhosa would be an advantage
  • High level of self-awareness, is committed to own development
  • Able to gain the trust of others, able to keep confidences
  • Able to work independently as well as a member of a team

Due to crisis intervention facility, this individual must be willing and able to be called out after hours in an emergency (i.e. death of a student); should a psychologist presence be warranted. In addition, the individual must be able to respond to a crisis within 20 minutes of being contacted. This requires that the job incumbent live within 16km of the University.

Job Description

Senior HR Practitioner (Grade 14) 3-year fixed-term contract (may be renewable depending on the availability of funding)

People and Culture Division

The People and Culture Division invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

 

Main Objectives

As the line manager of the relevant unit, the Senior HR Practitioner and the unit team are required to offer a professional and valued HR service to the relevant Faculties and/or Divisions. Within the Recruitment and Staffing Section, the individual is also expected to contribute to the development of best practices, policies, and processes that enable and drive increased long-term efficiency and effectiveness of staff within the relevant Faculties/Divisions.

The HR Officer and the Senior HR Practitioner will operate in a unit. These units are in the Recruitment and Staffing Section. The Recruitment and Staffing section is within the P&C Division.

 

The Requirement

A relevant B. Degree (preferably in Industrial/Organisational Psychology or Human Resources - NQF Level 7) plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

  • Approximately 6 years of intense recruitment and selection experience at all levels within or for an organisation.  Experience using recruitment software will be a distinct advantage.
  • Some experience in most, if not all, areas of HR (for example, HR Administration, Industrial Relations, Training and Development, Remuneration, Performance Management, HR IT systems, and Well-being).
  • At least one year of management experience or have an accredited management Development Program Certificate of Competence at the NQF level 7.
  • Must have used and/or be familiar with HR information technology systems.
  • Assisting with the development of structures, systems, and processes to ensure service delivery of a high quality that is valued by others.
  • At least 24 months of experience in a pressurised, complex, and high-volume people management environment, dealing with a large staff complement (minimum of 500 employees).
  • Previous experience within the Higher Education sector will be an advantage.
